we wanted to keep the view while blocking the cold fall wind. The solution was to back the insect screen with clear plastic!

It is getting cold here in Canada...we might spend a bit more time inside...a small table will be practical for breakfast and small snacks!

Due to continued intermittent problems with the Basecamp fridge, we decided to add a 12-volt compressor fridge. I've installed two ports, one for it to run off battery and the second for the fridge to run off the MPPT solar charge controller that I added. Attached are photos.

The small table and trays look great and would work for a trailer too. We are always looking for ways to take food to potluck or outside. Are the trays just sitting on the table or attached.

Hello -the tray is just sitting on top of the table. So - very practical to bring stuff in and out of the trailler!

To keep the cleaning to a minimum, We have added shower curtain in the wet bath using two tension rods.

The total cost was bout $85 for the 0.157" plastic waterproof panels (home depot) and UV extreme outdoor Velcro tape (amazon).

The first picture shows the unit with the Velcro, followed by the panels and finally with the panels installed.

Velcro is attached to all four sides of the panels.

There is an approximate 1/4" air gap between the panels and glass and does provide good protection for flying rocks - they bounce right off. Obviously, very large rocks/debris will cause damage.

The panels are for under towing conditions only and come off while camping (put in back of pickup) or inside unit when stored.

Just sharing information.

Hey RocIngersol, how did those DIY window covers work for you? Any issues with them coming lose while towing?

We have a 2008 Basecamp. One of the options available at the time we purchased it (2007) was a Kelty tent, made specifically for hooking onto the Basecamp. We have one, and though we seldom are in one place long enough to need to use it, it does fit well and is a good addition for extra space. I would imagine that you would be able to locate one somewhere. Let me know if you have any other questions. Here is a link to the owner's manual. There is a section in there about the Kelty Basecamp tent.

I like most everything about our Basecamp X but considering that it's designed for two people I don't see a need for a dinette where I can seat six. So I templated the flip in boards that convert the dinette to a bed and designed two piece boards to take their place. So now we can have a large lounge area with a small two person dinette.
On our recent 28 day trip we had it set up as a king size bed with a lot of pillows. We added a king size 3" topper making it super comfortable, especially sleeping with the rear door open.

That looks like a fantastic mod and would eliminate the only thing I don’t love about the BC - taking the bed apart every morning to be able to use the dinette [emoji51] Thanks so much for sharing!

We’re in the market for a propane generator, will probably get a Honda (unless there’s a better one) and I’m curious as to how long you can run the generator on the propane tanks?

We purchased a 3" topper and it easily tucks back underneath when we want to use the table. There are 4" tri-fold toppers that might work even better.

Hi Basecamp owners!
My wife and I happened to see a great space gaining solution for our 2018 basecamp on YouTube.
We made a cut on the side foldout boards and hinges down to the size of the shorter back cushions. You need to have an 1/8” gap between the cut so the boards pass each other with ease.
This allows us to have the bed setup and keep a table top set up at the same time. It also allows us to get to some storage under the bed easier when the bed is set up. For sleeping we just drop in the shorter table post , cover it w the 2 shorter cut boards we now have and the 2 back cushions and pull the foam mattress topper we use down to cover it. That converts it back to a king size bed ! during the day just pull the foam topper back towards the back door to approx a full size bed and set the taller table in place. Then use the 2 smaller cushions as back cushions at the 2 seats that are created in either side of the table .

This was an awesome improvement!!! Gives us so much more room to move around when 2 people are in the trailer . Airstream execs take note ! This is a very easy and inexpensive modification that is guaranteed to be a hit with basecamp enthusiasts .
