Basecamp 20x Ventura Tent
Hi all! Does anybody know if the Ventura Air tents that are currently being sold come in different sizes for the 16,16x, 20 and 20x? We just opened and set up ours for our 20x, and from initial inspection it looks like it is 6-8 inches too short for the height of our trailer. The tent cord will slide into the awning track, and then lift the trailer side of the tent off the ground. I’m still waiting to hear from our dealership, but other information this year hasn’t been very been clear or fast. There were no English directions with the tent.

Basecamp77,
What did you wind up doing with your tent. Last week we brought home our 2022 Basecamp 20X also and set the tent up in our driveway over the weekend. It too was short as you said and the door of the B/C looks as if it would wear a hole or rip the top of the tent when opened after a few uses.
Did you get any good information or were you able to return your tent to Airstream? Thanks for any info you have.

We also purchased the Ventura tent for our Basecamp 20X. We haven’t had a chance to set it up yet, but hoping that this isn’t the case.
We’re you able to talk to Airstream and return your tent?

FWIW, we just picked up our 16X this past week and will be setting up the tent this coming weekend... curious to see how it fits. Fingers crossed!

Going to attempt to install the tent this weekend. Does anyone know if you can permanently remove the back plastic that slides into the gutter rail all the way around the Basecamp? Or do you just remove while the tent is in use and then reinstall?

So on the 16X the height seems like it would be ok when the tent is stretched the full distance of the awning to the gutter rail HOWEVER, can anyone share the secret of getting the tent awning INTO the gutter rail??? The black plastic (which seems to be aesthetic only) is very easy to take out and put back in - but the awning seems too big to fit in the rail (tried pushing with a screwdriver and that just tears it up).

Dell,
We started the awning toward the rear of the BC and fed it into the gutter slot. Once started it stayed in the track pretty well. We had one person pulling the awning and one person lifting “feeding” end to keep the weight off making it easier to pull through the channel.
Hope that helps.

Weimhutte,
I think you can do either. We re-installed the molding after setting up the tent on our 20X.
Our tent is back at the dealer and we’re working to get a refund. We called Airstream support initially and forwarded video of the entry door scraping the fabric as well as the height issue. They gave me a link to a 2017 YouTube video of a guy setting up the old style tent on a 16. The old one had tent poles. When I called again, a different rep said this tent was not made for the 20x and was too short.
I think they should set up tent on every model and update their videos if AS is going to sell it as an accessory.

Yep…. we tried starting at the back where the little gap is on the corner but just could not get it into the channel. I feel like I need a pliers to squeeze it in.

Keep us up to date if you are able to get a refund. Agreed they should update the videos on AS and show how to set up if they are going to sell as an accessory.

Do you know if you ordered the W320 or the W320 L. I can’t find the difference in dimensions on any websites, but curious if the W320L is longer and will work on the Basecamp 20X

Hi all, sorry to have posted here and then failed to reply in a timely manner. We are in the process of returning our tent to the dealership. Even with this return we are a little bit disappointed because our intention was to use the basecamp with the tent attached for our large family with soon to be six young children. We’ve seen it advertised as “additional living space”. As it never properly sealed to the trailer it was not bug proof or waterproof, or even easy to get from the tent to the trailer. At one point on the tent they used velcro leaving gaps of 1 to 2 ft with no actual closure so bugs are free to climb in and out. At this time we just purchased an additional tent and set it up next to the camper wherever we go. I think it would serve airstream well at this point to let everybody know this is more of a covered porch than anything else. Best of luck and safe travels to you all!

We have confirmed with both Isabella (manufacturer) and the Dealer that this tent will not fit on the 20X. Airstream has told us to work with the dealer and the dealer will not take it back. Very disappointing as Airstream clearly markets the tent in all of their online and physical marketing vehicles.

Isabella has told me that they have discontinued the W320 line and are working with Airstream on a new tent that will be available sometime in 2023.
The issue of what tent for which Basecamp is a live one. I found a dealer that still had one of the older rear tents but was told that it would not work on the X (lifted) model.

This is good news. Do you have a contact at Isabella or maybe an email address? We are picking our 20x up in a couple months and I would like to keep in touch with them on availability. Thanks.

I would definitely be interested in any info on a new tent. I have a 20X as well and I want more “living space” for longer duration stops.
The current plan is to put a rooftop tent on my TV, but at that point, I would be over payload and would need to look long and hard at my options. In my case, Carli offers a solution for my truck to increase the total payload, but I'm wary of doing such modifications before I'm out of warranty on the truck. It's also another several thousand dollars, on top of the rack and the RTT.
So if I can avoid those expenses, I would be a happy camper (no on intended).

This is from the response I got from Isabella:
<<Yes, this product is currently discontinued. However, Airstream, being our dealer, may have some still in their stock. I would reach out to your nearest Airstream dealer and ask them about stock.
Currently, we’re working with Airstream to supply a new product and tent to them, starting in 2023.
Thank you,

Basecamp 20x Ventura Tent
I contacted the guy above separately and got the same response. I pressed him on when and he couldn’t give a timeframe. We are just going to wait.

My salesperson said it would work but the door rubs at the top and you can only open the door half way. He said it’s not that bad but I wasn’t willing to take 2 or 3 thousand dollar gamble.
