Basecamp 16 dimensions of bathroom toilet space needed

Hi all - Iím taking delivery in two months (hopefully) and want to replace the factory toilet with a composting version, for long term boondocking.

If someone can kindly post the dimensions of the space around the toilet, Iíd be very happy.

Or, if anyone wants to share their experience with fitting and operating a composting toilet in the BC16, that would be helpful as well.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

While I have not actually “pulled the trigger”, I am close to buying one and also want to replace with a composting toilet

I replaced mine and installed composting toilet in my 22 Basecamp 16x. Have pictures and info if anyone needs. Yes, space is cramped but still enough room to stand/sit. We are very happy with the install and not having to deal with anything but gray water. Primarily boondocking so water lasts longer as well. The tiny fan draws very little and is direct connected to the battery and installed an on/off switch so when not camping and toilet is empty, it can be shut off.

That’s good to hear! Would love to see a photo, thanks for offering! I’m receiving my 16X in May and I plan to pull the toilet so I’m not tempted to use it, lol.

Photo of Composting Toilet install Basecamp 16x

Am attaching 4 photos. Final pic should be including the switch for the always on hookup to the battery but wanted to be able to switch off the fan when the toilet is empty in off season. Unfortunately the pics didnít load upright so use your imagination! Feel free to ask for more detail if needed.

Just curious. I don’t boondock, but I know my grey water usage overwhelms my black water by at least 3x. In a combined tank, how much extra capacity does this actually get you? I’m assuming people don’t just dump grey water when the tank is full.

I only know what I’ve read and can speculate, hopefully someone with experience will answer. But at the very least, every bit helps. It removes urine, solid waste and flush water. So I can only imagine that it’s significant and of course depends on how much of each is produced.

For me, keeping my tank for grey water only is a big win for several reasons, not only preserving its capacity.

When and where to dump grey water and urine is a topic I won’t go into but maybe someone will. You can find some discussions on it in threads about composting toilet threads.
