Base Camp dimensions

Newbie here. I’m contemplating buying a new base camp and wonder if it possible to fit in my garage. My door height is about 8 feet. Is that enough clearance? Thanks

Manual has it at 8'6.25". I put a tape measure against Basecamp and 8' to the roof so think they are right!

As I understand it, the new axle made it a tad bit taller. Not sure the manual reflects that.

We just had a nine foot garage door installed at our house to accommodate our Basecamp. It is so nice to have our trailer at home now.

I measure ours at 8 feet 7.5 inches to the highest point on the A/C unit. If you don’t have the A/C option you will save a few inches.

We fit ours in our garage, which I thought would be very tight just by measuring it, but with some work, it fits easily – measurements and reality don’t always align.

We have to switch to hitch ball with a smaller drop (because our entrance is sloped), disengage the garage door from the opener, remove the bracket on the door, prop the door open (up) a few more inches and it fits.

Thanks Troy! Very helpful. Never thought of disengaging the door.

I was also reading a post here about someone who notched the trim of his garage door and disengaged his door so his AS would fit. That thread gave us the idea to install the 9 ft garage door. ( originally an 8 foot door) We have a trailer dolly we use to position the Basecamp so that we can still fit our truck and two cars in the garage.

I do not know how to link to that other thread, but i believe that it is titled "minimum garage door height". The guy that notched his garage door does an amazing job parking his BIG airstream in his garage.

BCX in a 9' Garage Door

I have the 2020 Basecamp X. The docs say it is 9' tall. I have measured it, and it seems clear that is to the top of the AC unit when level. But the angle of the AC unit makes it appear that if I lowered the tongue so the AC is perpendicular to the ground I can reduce the height 2-3", which might make it fit inside a 9' garage door. I'm thinking of a drop hitch solely for the purpose of parking, or perhaps a powered dolly, or dual-wheeled trailer jack capable of pushing the lighter Basecamp weight into place if dropped just outside the garage door. Any feedback or suggestions?

Welcome to the forum!

Have an air compressor ready to go inside the garage, and let air out of the tires . . . you could probably gain a couple of inches IMO . . . then pump the tires back up to pressure.

Remember to reverse the process on the way out!

Good luck,

Peter

PS -- The rest of this thread is over 2 years old FWIW.
PS2 -- Don't you mean parallel below?

Thanks OTRA15. been reading a while but new to posting. so should I just delete the post and start a new thread? correcting the perpendicular to parallel?

Seems fine to stay here IMO. Maybe just do a new post with a title that fits. No need to quote me. The title of this thread is general enough IMO.

Thanks, I moved this to a new thread and made the correction you pointed out.

Well done!

Would "let some air out of the tires" gain you enough clearance?

Good luck,

Peter
