Airstream Supply Company Mattresses

We have only had one outing in our new Basecamp 20x. I slept great, but my husband hardly slept. We are looking for mattress options for the rear dinette area, and the best option we can find is the custom mattress from Airstream Supply Company. It is very expensive, but not a deal breaker if it allows the hubby to get some sleep. We plan on keeping the bed permanently made (although looking at the hinged model so that we can use the space if needed).

Does anybody have any experience with these mattresses, for Basecamp or other models? We ordered two of the samples, but it's hard to tell much from a 12"x12" cube.

My brother used a custom mattress company in Kelowna. BC that sets up a Lazer in the BC 20 and custom cut a full depth mattress for them.
They removed all the cushions and just use the new mattress.

We went to Kohls and bought a queen 3-in foam topper for under $100 (I had a coupon). We swap it out between our murphy bed inside the house and our 20X. It is very comfortable. We could easily trim it to fit the contours of the bed but it fits well enough as is with a queen sheet. (A trimmed king would fit even better but our murphy bed is a queen). We mostly take 2-3 day trips to state parks or KOAs and leave the bed down the whole time. It does take up some space if you roll it up and leave it inside, but we still have room to sit and our dogs love using the foam roll as a lounge. Good luck!

We just ordered and received a new mattress from the airstream supply company. We have had our Basecamp 20x for just over 2 years. We also keep our bed set up all the time. We had realized that especially when gone for longer trips we were waking up with sore hips. ( in our 60's)We haven't used the new one yet but I am pretty sure it's going to be a game changer.... so comfy... and we did get the hinged mattress so we can access both sides of the trailer..

We purchased the twin beds, 10" thick, from AS company 1.5 years ago, and are very pleased. Our old mattress's were 8" thick. These are 10". I wanted to go 12" but wife said now. There are other Mfg. that folks use for their AS's that also have good ratings; search the Net for "discussions" on Airstream Mattress. As an example: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f38...es-247602.html

Custom mattress

Yes, look for a custom mattress company in your area. I took my corner bed mattress to a company in Reno, Nv. I picked out my option and they even added more padding on the top since it isn't reversible. And I can't complain about the cost, very reasonable. I even think our medium prison here does mattresses also. Especially there in Washington, I am sure boats and yaughts and ships even need customization.

We got a couple of 3” mattress toppers to use for now. I have a feeling that as they compress down with use we will upgrade to a mattress that either comes in two pieces or has a hinge.

What do you mean by hinged? I don't see anything mattresses that are hinged for access to the sides. That would be great. Thanks in advance for your reply

There are companies that will do custom mattresses with a hinge - Tochta - https://www.tochta.com/hinged-mattre...SAAEgIZ8fD_BwE
Wilderness RV Mattress - https://wildernessrvmattress.com/?ut...SAAEgJdo_D_BwE

Update. After trying and hating a thick memory foam topper (with the airstream cushions both under and on top), we ended up ordering a hinged mattress from Airstream Supply Company. It just arrived today. We got the base option (Wanderer), as it seemed like it might be the firmest option. It seems a little softer than we had hoped, but better than anything else we've tried so far. It also fits really snug in the space and closer to the backdoor handle than ideal.

Will be going on a week-long trip next month, will report back!

Curious which option you chose and have you had a chance to use it yet?

I try to avoid buying things from Airstream Supply. Over priced. For example the Beddy's. Yes they are "custom" fit for AS's. But we bought the regular Queen size and they work just fine. Saved over $200.

Airstream Supply has several mattress "in stock" if your lucky enough to visit the JC area. Which is why, we chose to purchase our new 10" mattress from them. You can see/feel the different options/size thickness on their display. I for one, am not one to just "order" a mattress, without seeing/feeling. Sleep too important to me at my age. That being said, yea, they may be a bit more $$ than if you order from SOMC- (some other mattress company) But, for me, this was a no brainer. Free shipping, arrived in less than a week, and fit perfect. Keep in mind, the thickness of original for us was 8"; I wanted 12" like the GT models, but wife said 10" was fine! Little over a year now, and still sleeping great! Oh, and yes, I did call a couple other companies, recommended by folks here on the Forum including the company that makes them for AS, but after being in JC for other reasons, and looking at their sample models, just made it easier for our decision.

I did a bunch of research and narrowed it down to Tochta and RVmattress.com. I ended up going with the 8" dream foam essential from RVmattress and I am NOT HAPPY. It was advertised as medium firm and I would call it medium, at most. I already cut it to size so it's a sunk cost at this point. My previous set up was a 3" Amerisleep topper over the stock seat cushions and that was way better. I'm going to get one of their toppers again and try this whole thing over. Extremely bummed.

Tochta has diagrams of the BC with a hinge, if you ask for it. It has all the measurements you need to cut any other foam to the right shape.

We still are happy with a 3-in mattress topper (https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-34...er.jsp?prdPV=1). We roll it up during the day when we want more space to sit, and it becomes a comfy sofa back. We move it to one side when we want to use the back door.

Good luck!

DO you use it on top of the seat cushions? I am debating whether to go back to my old 3" topper but I already got rid of the cushions

EDIT - NEVERMIND :-) I see the picture
