2nd bed in Basecamp 16x

I haven't seen anyone having used the Basecamp 16 kitchen area for a 2nd bed, but I think I'm going to put a 3/4" sheet of plywood cut in an arch, 75" long and 37" at the wide part of the arch, and put some 1/8" lip underneath the ridges, so it raises above the sink, stove, and plugs. For portability I also may put hinges in the middle, so it is smaller and easier to handle.

A regular twin bed is 75 x 38, so I'm thinking it should work for most of us, and especially younger guests. Anyone done this? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

If you did this I’d like to see a picture. I was also thinking about putting some seating upfront. Thanks

2nd Basecamp bed

Hi,
I'll attach photos (I'll try....it's not real obvious to me if the attachments were uploaded correctly....). There are 6 individual pieces, going around the contour of the sink, cooking area, using 3/4" plywood. The 6 pieces are cut to be able to be stored under the bench. In the photos you'll see I have left the "long" piece bolted together, but when on the road it would be separated and stored with the other 4 pieces. It is made more for a child, but I'm 170 and it holds me no problem, as it does my 200 lb son.
What's needed to finish: 1). 1/4" to 3/8" rubber "feet" under the plywood pieces, to raise the plywood above the sink, cooking area, and collapsed plug tower. 2) A piece of wood on the near edge, so sleeper doesn't roll off onto the floor. 3). A foam mattress, like everyone purchases for the Basecamp bed.
Hope it helps.
Tom

Looking good…I was thinking about moving the microwave and fridge and dropping the cabinet top down and making a seat there..I’d of course hang onto the microwave and fridge in case I sold, At least there would be a place to sit while the bed is out…That’s the only complaint from my wife and daughter..no place to sit..
