Tire Rotation

I'm curious if you rotate your tires if you a) do it yourself and b) what pattern you do it in (x or front to back).

We are at 6,000ish miles and the back tires are wearing unevenly. I know we need to lower our hitch, but I also think in order to get the most of these tires we need to rotate them. I've never rotated ANY tires by myself, but the thought of dragging this thing and leaving it for God knows how long with people who may or likely may not know about Airstreams gives me pause. I'm trying to determine if this is a job I can do. If it is, I am also trying to figure out what to be on the lookout for.

Welcome Aboard...👍

Yes, I rotate every Spring...But the wheels are already off for Winter.
I X 😂 (LR > RTF) so on.

If you have a capable jack and at least one jack-stand...you CAN do it.
I recommend jacking on the axle mount plate.👍

I used to rotate every year, but I stopped doing it on the trailer I own now.
The purpose of rotating tires is to prolong the tires' life and make them wear evenly if there is uneven wear.
My prior trailers had uneven wear due to poor alignment and low inflation pressure. My present trailer wears each tire evenly, since alignment is good and air pressure is increased to about 55psi, 10psi over suggested 45 psi on the manufacturer's placard.
I always keep an eye on the wear pattern. I change the tires due to age at around 5 years, so they never wear out, just age out.

You can do it!

Mary, I just rotated the tires on our 2019 27’ Globetrotter in our driveway. It’s not a terrible job and might be worth going through the process to educate yourself of what to do should you need to replace a flat on the road.

I have a TrailerValet that I placed under the ball then used a 3 ton floor jack with a block of wood under the lift point on the trailer (marked with a square aluminum piece under the trailer). You can just hook up your tow vehicle to support the tongue - stronger than just the tongue jack.

I followed the rotation pattern in the Owner’s Manual (front to rear - not crossed) which makes it easy to do one side at a time. Torque your wheel nuts per specs, 110 lbs. for aluminum wheels.

Another benefit of doing it yourself is you can inspect for a brake dragging by spinning the wheel. You should hear a slight noise if the brake linings are self-adjusting properly but then should spin freely.

Ask a friend to help you if you’re not comfortable doing the job yourself and take your time!

If you decide not to tackle it, call a local tire shop and see if they’ll do it. I had Discount Tire install metal valve stems for a TPMS on our trailer and they did it in less than an hour including rebalancing.

Every year. Rears to front and fronts crossed to back.
