Yikes! What is it?

The previous owner of my motorhome (Chummy) put decals on the front side panels, under the driver's and passenger's windows. They were removed when I purchased Chummy so I never got to see the decals and can only guess as to what they looked like. Now I have the results. Several "experts" had assured me that once the clear coat was removed the finish would be the same. Theory being that the decals removed the clear coat. OK I bought it and removed the clear coat and the marks are still there.
I have attached pictures. This motorhome was built in mid-1982 and most likely has a mixtures of aluminum on it so I do not want to polish the entire unit. I will be giving the entire unit a very good detailing and shining. As I have stated the clear coat has been removed from the entire front panels. What I wonder is if I start with a metal polish can I expect to remove those marks or only make them worse?

Yessiree...The decal area has been exposed to the weather all those years when the rest of the coach under the clearcoat has not. I'm not sure how you can make it look the same without doing the whole coach. I'm sure there's enough expertise here though. Somebody will be able to tell you.

If you try any metal polish, you will end up with a very shinny spot instead of a very dull spot.

Both will stand out.

My suggestion... Wait for the promissed "offical" forum sticker and put it over the trouble area!

I can see a set of P-40 Warhawk decals in your future! See Steven Webster's avatar for how they'll look on your MH!

I am a lifelong pacifist so no warhawks on my Chummmy, possibly a large daisy or the 60's peace symbol. Seriously I once had a VW camper and do not want to return to those days. Gratefully the Dead are dead. I would not mind if that entire panel was shiney. I do know that the coach was constructed of different aluminum and the whole body will not shine. AS switched over to a different aluminum in 82. Mine must of been in the middle of the switch. The difference is very evident under the clear coat so I want to be careful not to emphasis that; however these front panels won't matter. Will they buff out?
