Question Vinyl inserts in rub strips '75 Overlander

Hi All, we have been working on Shiny Beast for over a year now and we have used it for trips 5 times this year and we are now doing the more cosmetic touches EG replacing the window screens etc but the one thing we think will have the most dramatic effect is replacing the Vinyl in the rub strips. When we got it the vinyl was all dry rotted so we pulled what was left out and cleaned and re-riveted the channels back on firmly, now we have the new vinyl we wonder if it just snaps in or do we have to rivet the ends as well for it to stay in place.
Thanks in advance.
