Scratch Repair

My airstream was keyed all the way around the exterior. Does anyone have suggestions on how to repair? Can it be buffed out or is this an auto body shop repair?

That is horrible to hear.

Did they gouge all the way through the clearcoat and damage the aluminum?

I can’t imagine what a body shop could do for you — they deal with painted steel not plastic coated aluminum.

A few pictures would help.

Sorry to hear about that. Don’t know what kind of low life would do that but these days nothing should surprise us.

I’m also sorry to say that you don’t have many options to repair a deep scratch in the Airstream exterior. To my knowledge once the coating is scratched through its permanent. Possibly polishing (removing all the coating) like the real shiny Airstreams would take care of it. But that’s a LOT of work and then you’re committed to keeping it polished it or it gets dull.

If there’s a solution out there I’d sure like to hear it myself since we have a couple scratches on ours.

By the way, where were you when this happened?

Jim

You "might" be able to use the clearcoat pen that AS sells. I did use it on some scratches that were not too deep. It's a band-aid for sure. Do what you can to protect the the base.

I didn’t know about that. I have a scratch on the door where it hit an open window (design issue?) on my 28 RBT. I need to look into the clear coat pen for that.

Thanks

Scratch Pictures

We are super bummed.

I had my driveway seal coated, so I moved it 50 yards away from my house. We live in Winter Park, CO (Ski Resort). Lots of people partying here for Labor Day weekend. At first, I thought it was bike handlebars, but then I noticed it all the way around. I reported it to the police. My insurance company said to get a bid before putting in a claim. I'm guessing we reach out to Airstream or a dealership to see if they can replace the panels?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks all for responding.
