Re-coat anyone use 2K Clearcoat

I had plastic coat peal on center segment on front I removed remaining coating red numbers and Airstream logo.
I was able to polish finish getting rid of ghost numbers and mismatch wherever it pealed.
So my question is has anyone come up with a good Clearcoat?
I have tried
Shark hide witch did not look good to me
Aulma-seal
Airstream spay acrylic spray can worked ok but looking for better way.

I purchased Spray Max 2K Clearcoat but not sure if it will stick after reading instructions it made for covering Automotive base coat. It looks like a good product but not sure if it will bond to bare aluminum. Has anyone used this product?

When applying paint or a clear coat to bare metal it is advisable to acid etch surface right before applying paint / finish.

I would look into these folks. They have a product that holds up to the toughest conditions.

https://www.alumaclear.com/

Enjoy,

I'd test it on something other than the airstream first in case it's hard to remove, buy some aluminum from the hardware store and test it.

Aluminum oxidizes almost instantly even if you can't see it, hard to say if that will stick but it's worth trying, let us know your results, I'm curious!

I also have clear coat peeling in several places. Since I live in Switzerland I don't always have access to the same products you have in North America- it is a real pain sometimes. I can not / would not polish my AS (2005 International CCD) and am not sure my aluminum would anyway. It's not allowed in Switzerland to have a shiny reflective surface. So, I've been wondering what the aluminum would look like if it was bare- just oxidised. Has anyone left theirs bare? Of course lightly rusted looking steel is a fashion trend right now, and I am wondering if bare aluminum would not look horrible. Thoughts?

on my previous Airstream, a 1986 31’ Sovereign, the end caps started exfoliating clearcoat so I stripped them and then lightly “polished” with Meguiar’s Aluminum Wheel Polish. They looked 1000% better but certainly not “mirror-like”

Then every Spring, another light polish with the same stuff.

Was it gorgeous? No, but it was certainly presentable.

it is one of those long time scams.
like oil based rust proofing for cars
or an electonic anode to stop rust ( they work on ships and in the ground, but not cars)

David, polished aluminum begins to "corrode" almost immediately. It is just the bare aluminum oxidizing at the surface layer, and then effectively sealing off the underlying aluminum from rapid further oxidization. The layer is thin and is not durable. the oxidized layer is not as shiny as polished, but shiny could be in the eye of the beholder, if the local "shine police" are having a slow day.

clean, acid etch, Alodine, paint

...that was the process when treating aircraft aluminum. Then the paint would stick. However, the type of aluminum used in airplanes and airstreams is different. Different enough to materially change the recipe? Don't know.

Found this product on a different post Nyalic

I contacted the suppler of Nyalic he informed me that he has sold this product to a lot of Airstreams to re-coat there exteriors.
I ordered 3 cans and plan to try on small spot.
Has anyone used this product with success?
It was developed for Nasa and has been around for quite sometime.
Here is a link if interested
