Photos from the RV Junk Yard...a must see!
The pics are crappy, I forgot to bring the digital, so all I had was a disposable from Ozarkland....
So I'm posting the few good ones from Colaws RV Salvage.
It was like a graveyard. The wind was whistling through the trailers, with the metal skin banging as it flapped in the wind. Was a sad, sad, sight....

Gee, all I can say is "one man's junk is another man's treasure."
I'm looking at all those wrap-around windows, barely blemished stone guards and countless other goodies and wondering if it would be worth a drive there with a U-Haul trailer from Idaho!
Not gonna happen if my wife has anything to say about it though!

Looks like the aftermath of my wife trying to learn how to back the trailer up...

Colaw RV (not colaws, or colaw's) It took me forever to find a number for them. THey ship parts nationwide. It's definately not a place for the locals, because there aren't any. Pretty much in the middle of no-where. 22 miles from the Oklahoma border off interstate 44, in Missouri. The guy I talked to was a little absent minded, but you should call. They are picked over, but we found little parts we needed here and there.
If you're ever on the road, this is a great place to check out! I'm very thankful to the forum members who poited me to them for my missing window....
Thanks
Ron

TCL how does Colaw work?
Are you free to roam if you don't go inside? or only accompanied and therefore limited for time?
Do they allow visitors to go in the wrecks ?
Do you remove any of your own parts?
Are most wrecks labled as to year and layout?
Do they price parts from seat of their pants or do they look something up?
Do they seem anxious to help? even on small insignificant parts?
I have been to a hundred or more auto junk yards, met about 5 folks total I'd even remotely want to see again.
Oh and what do you think of their prices?
Thanks for the picture report.

Thanks, I've copied it down. We live in North Dallas, 50 miles from Oklahoma & visit there a couple of times a year. I'm thinking a side trip there would be worth a look-see. I was thinking it was nearer to y'all in St. Louis! BTW: east OK (Rt. 75 et al) is some very beautiful country, not usually expected for that area.

It is Colaw's RV salvage, Carthage, Mo. Exit 22 on I-44, north west outer road. Salvage or not, it is a good place to stop if you are on the interstate. They have good prices on a lot of new RV supplies, and occasionally really great prices.
I believe I am correct in saying there is not a single stone guard, either side, in decent shape. There are some good windows. They have one unit from the late 70's, everthing else is either mid to late 80's or 90's except the Bambi ('01?) and what's left of a '02 34' slide out.
I am just up the road, and get over that way every couple of weeks, if anyone needs me to look for something just pm me.
I have rescued, and "rescued" is the proper word, quite a few odds and ends. I snatched up two sets of curtains, one front and one rear, that were just left to rot in the rain and wind. I got one corner panel to fix a pumpkin attack, but good dent free panels are scarce also; Airstreams apparently tend to roll in an accident, and in so doing torque the entire body shell.

Well, east of Highway 75 anyway. There are some beautiful state parks tucked away. And if you like your lakes large, wide, and shallow, they've got them also. Many people are surprised that the Ozarks do not end at the Arkansas border.

No if you ask, yes if you don't.
"Do you remove any of your own parts?"
I usually do. They keep making noises that they will stop doing that (liability).
"Are most wrecks labled as to year and layout?"
They year is usually marked on the front, and they lay out all over the ground.
"Do they price parts from seat of their pants or do they look something up?"
They try and get 1/2 the price of new, if anyone knows what the price of a new one is. Make an offer.
"Do they seem anxious to help? even on small insignificant parts?"
James is in charge of salvage sales. He will tell you what he knows - but he knows little about Airstreams and their quirks. Most of what he knows I taught him. He is very, very busy, so don't expect long stretches of undivided attention. Having said that, he is a very fine man. Just don't expect Airstream expertise.
Now, ask him about Norcold refridgerators, or Atwood water heaters, or Generac generators, or any of the other things that appear in most any RV, and that stuff he knows well.

That first photo where you can see several Airstreams lined up in a row almost looks like a rally gone horribly wrong.
When I visit salvage yards and see wrecked vehicles like this, it always fires the imagination regarding who, where, how, etc.... I've always thought places like this were a little eerie, a little bit spooky, you know?
Great pictures, Ron. Thanks for taking them and sharing!

Well, it looks like these must have been used by Hensley for their video BEFORE they got it right!!

LOL!! Too true!
The first thing I thought of was that quote in every magazine article and t.v. news piece on Airstreams, which says "60% of all Airstreams ever built are still on the road today!" I'm looking at these, and wondering if they don't make up a large portion of the other 40 percent!
Seriously though, I have new respect for the fragility of aluminum trailers after seeing these pics. I'm getting the impression that if you roll one onto it's back, you're pretty much done. You don't just grab a few truck drivers, flip it upright and keep vacationing.

If you would...
I need a rear stabilizer to fit my 1995 21' Sovriegn. It's a BAL. Wing type.
Most appreciative of your offer.

Speaking of totally messed up Airstreams...

Check out this "burnout" from vintage-rv.com. They say it's what happens when you don't have your refrigerator serviced regularly!!!
