install exterior led porch light

1998 31' Classic TB did not come with the exterior light that is usually located under the exhaust vent for the stove. I have one to install but I'm not sure how wide the rib blocking is. I have to drill a hole to feed the light fixture wires through to connect the wiring from the new switch.

To visualize the ribs from the outside of your trailer you will observe vertical rivet lines. The rivet line will start down at the floor and extend upward to the center of the roof. That rivet line will indicate the possition of the ribs. OK so far? In-between the vertical rib lines should be a 2 or 3 rivets connecting the ribs horizontally. I believe that will be the "rib blocking" you are referring to. In my 64 Safari there are blockings down a foot or so off the floor and up close to the roof where it starts the radius, then another on the roof near the center. I hope this helps.

Thanks Dennis,

My AS only has "3" rivets per vertical strut (top to bottom)crazy! I thought about the horizontal struts being like " fire blocking" in a house. I drilled my hole just above the inside skin rivet line and was successful. I was able to fish my wires down to connect the light.

I'm still amazed by the LACK of rivets that were used was a higher to secure the outside skin. Someone told me, that the aluminum skin used in my year was a higher grade and did not need as many rivets. Any thoughts?

I am glad you got it done.

I do not know that the aluminum is a higher grade. However it is different than the older models that have the pure aluminum "Alclad"coating that allows them to be shined up like a mirror.
