Has anyone painted their A/C shroud silver or grey
I'm mounting my new Dometic A/C on my '67 Safari. It sure looks nice without the old ugly white one up there. Thought about reprinting the shroud silver or grey. Has anyone done that or seen it done? If you have, how did it work out? Surfed the net and A/S forum. Can't believe it hasn't been tried at least once!!

I did exactly that when I bought my 19' CCD in 2005. Had the body shop next door paint it in Mercedes silver, which is an exact match.
Looked awesome!
If you look at all of Airstream's Interstate vans, they all have their Dometic shrouds painted to match the Sprinter base color.

Thanks Lewster. BTW, another thanks for the tutorial AND excellent pictures (especially the pictures) you posted on the use of the Dometic drain cups. I couldn't figure out how I was going to mount those cups without turning the new unit over or at least sideways. All the "pros" said it couldn't be done. Looks like it'll be ok to turn it over for a short time just to get that finished. Again, many thanks!

I painted the shroud on my safari rustoleum silver 6 years ago. Still looks better than when I bought the trailer with.

My cover had started to crack around the edges so I strengthened the rim by adding aluminum HVAC tape on the inside and then applied a gel cyanoacrylate glue to the crack lines from the outside. I should add the cover was throughly cleaned with TSP first.
After carefully taping over the logo, I then painted my cover with Rust-Oleum's "Universal Silver" Automotive Paint for Plastic (#257389) from a spray can. Once dry, I removed the tape and totally sprayed it with Rust-Oleum's Automotive Enamel Clear Gloss (#257884), two coats.
It has been two years and it still looks great after every wash.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Sure hate to paint a brand new shroud, but looks like the way to go.

Yes, painted my shroud after I put a good coat of primer on it. Looks a lot better than white.

Spray cans for both primer and silver.
