So if a golf ball fliers farther for the divots maybe an airstream pulls easier for same. [emoji4]

No such claim on some states - not an option in AL it turns out
My settlement value is ok - they accepted what JC quoted no problem and transportation to and fro was covered.
I asked them about a rate hike and was assured since this was not my fault it would not go up for that reason - I assured them if they pulled that I would be shopping around

Hey Pharmgeek, long time no hear! I just read through this thread- WOW! I want to share with you that when I was going to drive from Florida to Jackson Center and called service to make an appointment for my smashed in panel, I was told that I was lucky to have a metal specialist much closer - JD Sanders Airstream has a man with something like 38 years experience and training in panel replacement from Airstream. Just in case you ever decide to replace a panel and the guy is still working there! I traveled there instead and they did a good job on my crushed panel. It was about $1600.
I too agree with BABS not to take the internal walls out, etc. The dents aren't that bad. I have seen MUCH worse even on late models like yours on the road.

The odds of having no dings in a piece of aluminum the size of an Airstream over the years is a pipe dream. Towing at 65mph, a big insect can do more than just go splat on the front of the coach. His instant passing often leaves a permanent reminder of his temporary residence. Stones hit the front in other locations than the rock shields.
These minor dings show the world the trailer has been used on the road and and loved by the owners doing the traveling.
Despite the denial of climate change, the weather patterns are changing and we are having more violent storms and more of them than I ever experienced in my youth over 60 years ago. This past summer, the midwest had had one major "bad" weather system after another with hail, tornadoes and flooding.
Unless we store in a concrete bunker enclosed on all sides, we are really playing a game of roulette as to whether we get caught out on the road if we plan to use the trailer in the summer.
Thinking of the priorities, PharmGeek, his wife and kids were not injured. The trailer is a thing which could be replaced, or not.

It was mentioned somewhere in the Forum that dealers repair damaged exterior panels by stacking a new panel on top of the old one. Any experience with this? If so, is that easy to do oneself?

Why? It's worth the small effort to pull the damaged segment and install the replacement properly.

i understand that properly sealing the panels to prevent water penetration is a large portion of the job, perhaps the hardest. Two panels don’t add that much weight but may help on creating a stronger barrier to the exterior perhaps

Read about olympic rivets. Layering panels can sometimes lead to leaks... Jackson Center can do that kind of repair beautifully, others...meh.
I paid about $500 extra to have a roadside rear panel replaced with bucked rivets at JC, and was amazed how much more complex the job was. 25 FB Eddie Bauer - half the dinette, the side couch and the furnace had to be removed to get to all the rivet lines.
Now I routinely forget it was ever damaged, but that might just be senility coming on.

1. bad deal from Insurance company. Those trailer sell for 20-25k. renegotiate the settlement by providing comparable sales. I sold that exact trailer (1987 29' for $22500.- a few month ago and had three serious buyers after it being on the market for 2 days)
2. I would replace the upper front three panels, all the vent covers, new LED marker lights and the rock guard plexi glass ($80.- item at the right plastic place) Total cost for parts only ~ $3500.- to $4k
3. Hire someone to teach you how to do it or look for write-ups from others that have done it with great success, like myself. I am just your average handy guy, eager to learn and to do outstanding work.
4. Enjoy your trailer and the extra money, since I hope you bought it back from the insurance company

Hail damage repair
Very interesting thread. I lived in Oklahoma for 2 years at Ft. Sill. Lots of hail damage in that area. Guy at a body shop showed me how to remove minor hail damage with DRY ICE. Park car, or Airstream, in hot sun. Wrap hunk of DRY ICE in towel. Massage damaged area with DRY ICE. (wear gloves). Pulls dent right out. Yes, I know this sounds hokey. But it works like magic. I made extra money buying light hail damaged cars and reselling after pulling out every spot I could. Never tried it on an Airstream but if mine ever has light hail damage I sure will try before making insurance claim.

I wonder if a hair dryer and a can of freeze spray can accomplish the same thing?
