Ceramic coating

Any info, bennefits or thoughts on having the exterior of my Air Stream coated with ceramic?

It’s a great option for those whom wish to reduce the cleaning time of their unit.

The Operative word here is 'having'.

It's not a simple proposition having a commercial grade coating applied. The surface must be free of all contaminants and it can be up to a six step operation.
AS such it is not for the faint of heart..$$$$.
I poo-poo'd it 'til I saw a professional job first hand.
I've since had both the Burb and the DW's MB done at Titan Motorsports. When I asked about the AS they said it could be done but without the 5yr guarantee because on the rivets and overlapping seams.

They said if I wanted to try it myself to use at least a 9H grade Ceramic.

Well worth it so far...just wait for temp's above freezing and comfortable enough to break out the flex hose and rinse off. Most all the winter grit can be washed away.

For newer trailers with clear coat I’d chose to have it done somewhere like Vinnie’s in northern California who has developed a coating just for Airstreams.

Long Long Honeymoon just did a piece on it.

I contacted Vinnie’s two weeks ago regarding coating our trailer but never received a response.

To anyone who has had it done — what’s that cost & size of your AS? Just curious.

I think my money would be better spent elsewhere. Airstreams are pretty easy to care for compared to other brands. We don't have problems with black steaks and corrugated siding that's hard to wash and care for. The finish on these units is long lasting and durable. I can think of many more things to spend the cash on.

It is a way to bring older units back to life. I'd be REALLY tempted if I owned an older unit before they did clear coat.

They do say it's better to do it when the clear coat isn't badly degraded, though. That's precisely when you don't THINK you need it!

My friend had his 1985 911 paint finessed and ceramic coated. Really makes old paint look new again. Click image for larger version
