AC removal before interior wall/shell removal?

I have a 67 caravel that came with a mounted ac that no longer works. I am currently in the middle of restoration/remodel. It is completely gutted except for the interior walls that I plan on removing to reapply new insulation and wiring. Before I remove my walls and considering I have to take it off no matter what, should it be my next step? Also, it is going to need to be replaced with another unit, I live in east Texas (I would die without it)... Can anyone recommend an affordable slim design? Thanks in advance!!

Hi....Most likly the AC has been mounted in the back old fan space. Looks like a big lump up there. Get rid of it...faster the better. What I did on my 66 Caravel was to pull that AC and use the spot for a Fantastic Fan. Then spaced correctly for fit I installed a Carrier Low profile 15000 AC. No longer made so I recommend a Mach 8 or Penguin low profile. You will have to run a drain line to the left side of the Caravel and provide power too. By the way....the Fantastic and the AC are not overwhelming and you will love the options it provides. The fan can be a substitute for the leaky stove vent/fan right beside it.
