I put this in this slot because there was no sub forum for the new Safari Sport.
I was at the dealership today to have my wheel bearings repacked and brakes checked and adjusted.
They had a new Safari Sport on the lot. It has NO rear bumper, AT ALL!
They also had a number of 2006 and 2007s in the lot that seemed to be there for service. They had corrosion all over them. Made mine look like a perfect unit!
Aside from storing some various odds and ends (that's where we keep the sewer accesories as well as the pole to unhook the awning clips) - is there a practical purpose for the rear bumper?

We put the lynx levelers there so they are handy for sliding under the wheels as we are backing in and then put the weight distribution bars inside after we remove them for out of sight storage, they can be grimy.
A bumper might absorb a bit of a light impact before piercing the aluminum.

Well, yes! A love tap from someone's vehicle or backing into something, even lightly, is going to hit the skin and instead of getting a new bumper, you have panel damage which is more costly and involves more man hours to fix.

Hey Carol would putting the distribution bars in the bumper storage be too much weight on the frame the way putting a bike isn't recommended because of its weight??

I didn't think of that... even when stationary and no flexing and wide distribution???? Do you think? Brad's preference was the truck. Who can clear this up for us please?
Can't find the specs for the weight of an 800# trunion spring bar... Then I wonder if Airstream publishes a load capacity for the bumper storage, in my case Classic style roll out bumper storage.

duh. Guess the grey matter between my ears was taking a coffee break!!
So do the new Safari Sports come equipped with a Force Field for protection? Wonder how much that option would cost...!
