We ordered a '07 Safari SE!

Hello all,

I've been lurking these forums all year without posting, just waiting to say Carolyn and I finally ordered a 2007 Safari 20' SE/LS from the local dealer in San Diego. We're pretty excited about it, this being our first Airstream, and our first trailer, period!

We did the order confirmation with the dealer recently, which provided us the VIN, a scheduled build date, and approximate delivery date. Interesting thing was the dealer read off the order sheet a comment from Airstream: "This will be the last VIN built with Beach Club interior." We really liked that color scheme, so we're happy to get it.

Looking forward to the adventure!
-jd.

Congratulations! That beach club interior is really cool. Will you be going to Ohio to see it being built on the line at the factory?

welcome and best of luck with your upcoming delivery.

is the 'crib' ready?

when is your build date?

someone may be near the factory during this time and can scope it out for you.

did you ask anyone at the factory to take photos for you?
some folks have been able to get a customer service rep to shoot a few during construction. these are great fun to have.

cheers

Oh that would be neat! But I'm afraid the closest I'll get to visiting the factory this year will be looking at the Luhr's flickr pages. We're about eight weeks out for delivery tick...tick...tick...

2air', great suggestions. I'll try to wrangle a customer service rep when we get a little closer to the build date.

The build date is scheduled for 29 Sep 2007 -- yep: a dreaded Friday. Here's to hoping the schedule gets perturbed just a little.

Cheers,
-jd.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Friday build date, as it takes a couple days to get all the way through the process. The last time I was at JC they were only working 9 hours a day Monday through Thursday and 4 hours on Friday.

well they do build 'em quickly, but it does take more than a couple of days...

usually i think they estimate 8-10 days on the factory assembly line. so approximately 2 working weeks. if you have a vin number they are usually gonna supply a start date. calling the factory on or near that day will reaveal IF they've really started.
then of course when it finally IS built, it still has to make it from ohio to cali...
then the dealer may take 1day or a week before finishing the dealer prep.

i visited the factory during construction of the 34.
my unit was approaching completion and looked to be done on 3/31.
which was a thursday....
i told them i hoped it took at LEAST 2 days more...not just 1...
i wanted to avoid friday and 4/1...
it did take several more days...

cheers

Smile coming soon...

Thought I'd share the latest with you all: we received a note from our dealer regarding the production progress of our coach:
Quote:
I just spoke with Airstream. They are estimating I will have that unit in San Diego on 10/20/06.
yay!

If we're very lucky we may even have production pictures by a visiting forum member visiting JC about this time (hope hope hope)...

How very exciting! We're all enjoying your purchase vicariously through you! We purchased this summer from inventory and have had more fun than you could imagine this season. We're in MN and looking forward to one more long weekend out before we go through the painful winterization process. The winterization isn't too bad... just painful to admit we're done camping in our trailer for a few months!

Make sure to post us all when your new "child-substitute" arrives!

Cheers!

You are gonna love your new Safari SE, although it isnt for everybody, we think it's the best design available anywhere. Use it and have fun.

Thanks for the encouragement, skykingpilot. I'll certainly keep posting as Things Happen ©

On winterization:
Well, we live in San Diego, CA, near the coast; we're expecting to not need winterizing and have it plugged in parked next to the truck (I love it when a plan comes together!) Still, we may need to learn a thing or two about winterization when we take it out on the road a few times in the coming months...!

Can't even imagine your needing to winterize! San Diego jsut doesn't get that cold! Unless you're coming WAY North, you should be fine. We'll get many nights of <32 degrees and don't worry until we get really hard frosts setting in. If it gets really cold (like in the mid 20's) I would fire up the heat in the trailer if I hadn't gotten around to winterize (especially in the hot water as it's exposed to the outside temps more directly).

The winterizing isn't really hard, just takes a little time and some RV antifreeze. All you need to know will be in your owners manual.

Best of luck, and hope to hear back when your unit arrives!

Getting close..

I'm taking delivery around 10/25/06 of a 2007 25 FB Safari SE. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for on our walkthru check at the dealer?
Thanks in advance,
Ken

Check out the new trailer shopping list thread, and RoadKingMoe's post #10 for a some ideas. Also try a seach on "delivery checklist".

Congratulations to you, your gonna love your new life with an Airstream! We're on our second (this is it for us) and love having our beach sites in the San Diego winter when tourists go home (San Elijo St Pk, love the Seaside Market for supplies across hwy 1) and as hubby is not retired this is a great quick get-a-way. Summer we get away from here!

Your 20ft is awesome BTW, great floorplan with double sink which is nice to have. Please send some pics when it gets here, you must be crazy with excitement waiting for your new AS, but do go over everything before you take posession as things can happen even though you ordered it....I speak from some experience on this one

Great to see another San Deigan AS owner on the forum!

Thumbs up Just arrived at dealer

Got an email from the dealer today -- our coach arrived early. Nice. So I had to go check it out, and it looks great. We expect to actually take delivery in a week or so.

And for anyone keeping track, the Yamaha ES2400iS tri-fuel shipped from US Carburetion and will arrive on my doorstep Monday. Ordered it September 10, so that's just about six weeks, web-to-san-diego.

I love it when a plan comes together

Thanks! Carolyn liked the floorplan, but initially I was interested in the 19' SE -- until the 20' SE came out. Really fell in love with with that trim package. Dual Fan Tastic fans, too. Woohoo!

I had the very great pleasure to have dinner last night with Rob Baker (theVAP.com) who was naming off several local airstreamers. Fun to hear some of his stories, and now looking forward to meeting more airstream folks!

Cheers,
-jd.

Congratulations! This is a very special time for you. Enjoy and savor every minute of it. It is hard to understand what each of us feels as we go through this time of anticipation,...until you experience it first hand. I know you are looking forward to the time when you have it home and all to yourself. Then you can go in it anytime and as many times as you want. Please post pictures!
