Wanderlust - Airstream at 75

Today we received directly from Airstream "Wanderlust - Airstream at 75". The enclosed letter from Bob Wheeler President and CEO presenting us the book congragulated us for purchasing a 2006 Airstream.

It is a very nice book but our Airstream is a 2007, as clearly stated on the title. We do not have the 75th Anniversay plaque that the 2006 models have.

We ordered out Airstream in October, it went into production on Dec 15 and was delivered Jan 18, 2007. Any one else with a 2007 model receive the book?

Hi OrangeKid –

As you know our trailers were made around the same time.
We ordered ours on November 22 and were told by our dealer that it came off production line by December 20th. Due to holidays and inclement weather our trailer did not arrive to dealer until January 10 and we picked it up on January 19, 2007. I'm guessing that since our trailer was built in 2006 we got the 75th Anniversary medallion on the trailer. See my photo of this in my post #20 at:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f396/silvergates-safari-home-last-29471-2.html

It was not clear to me that I would actually receive a complimentary copy of Wanderlust, so I ordered my own deluxe limited edition that came in an Aluminum case stamped #0704. It is very beautiful and comes with a DVD of how Airstreams are built and the caravans of Wally Byam.
See my photo in post #2 (this book is behind the candle) at:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f161/aluminumitis-dream-nightmare-30282.html

I am curious when your trailer actually came off the production line.
Did they send you a standard or deluxe edition?

In any case, as Mike Lewis said, don’t let it bother you, just read and enjoy it!

BTW, I enjoyed your Airstream Web show… Looks like you’re having fun!

Cheers,
SilverGate

SilverGate:

We ordered our Airstream on Nov 17, it went into production on Dec 19 (I believe our dealer delayed submitting the order until he had several in hand), it came out of production Jan 11, out of testing on Jan 15 and we picked it up Jan 18. Ours does not have the 75th Anniversary medallion, which we wish it had.

We received the standard edition of Wanderlust. Its a grea book. We plan to spend at least 100 nights camping in it this year. We are retired and spend much of our time traveling.

By the way does your Safari have the magazine racks mounted on the left bathroom wall over the bed. The 2006 model we saw at the dealer did not have the racks. From your photos it looks as if yours doesn't but I can't be sure.

Based on your photos it looks as if you are also having a great time. Good luck!

No, it was just the book. It is shown in the Airstream store for $39.99.

We got one too. Very nice silver book with picture on the cover and a nice unexpected present from Airstream! Great pictures and history inside.

OrangeKid – Found a package on the porch this morning from Airstream…
The Wanderlust book along with the letter that you mentioned!
Very nice… So now I’ll put this one in the trailer…
And the heavier Aluminum-cased book on the coffee table!

Our trailer did not come with the magazine racks on wall along bed (as seen in your web photo).
And I’m not sure I would want to bump into them getting in and out of bed.

We enjoined boondocking last weekend in Anza-Borrego desert…
Later this week I’ll post photo highlights of this and some more trailer modifications…
Such as magnetic kitchen utensil holders inside Wardrobe cabinet.

Let us know when you are camping in Southern California.

Cheers,
SilverGate

My wife bought the book for me with the COOL cover. I just like looking at that cover in my living room. The special version also comes with an AS DVD with 8mm film footage of manufacturing and worldwide trips taken in the past. Fascinating!

Yesterday I got the book from Airstream so I have two now. One for the house, one to carry in the rig.

Like Sivergate, we received a copy of Wanderlust. Ours arrived in February. We, too, have a 2007 model, but built in October, with 75th badging.

It really was a pleasant and unexpected surprise from Airstream. If only the much-anticipated jacket that finally arrived with the LS package was as nice! *sigh* I guess there's balance in everything

Cheers,
-jd.

I am expecting my jacket and hat. Are they pretty crappy so I can paint in them or can they be worn proudly to show the quality of the company we bought from?

Our jackets were nice but they were different from each other. The man's jacket was lined for a cold weather jacket and the woman's was a shell for warmer weather. I called the company to see if we could exchange them and they said this is what is provided by Airstream and what is offered. Neither style came in the other's (w/m) size. I have seen couples at the factory with matching jackets on so this probably varies from time to time. Both are good quality. (That's okay-- me and the Mr. don't often wear matching clothing)

We actually have several copies of the 75th book. Carring an extra with us to give to the first Airstreamer we see on the road. Have been looking, but so far, no luck. We are in Long Beach WA for a few months - will be looking! The weather is really nice here now, by the way.

Well, the hats they sent us are decent, and the women's style jacket is actually a decent windbreaker, but the men's style jacket? I think I just might paint in it or donate it -- it's a bit sad on me Like you said, the inventory seems to be a bit of a grab bag. At least my wife's is wearable (for her!)

But again (to stray back on topic!) the book is pretty cool, and I makes up for the jacket-goof.

Cheers,
-jd.
