I have a 2007 Safari LS SE 27' FB. We bought it new and took it out the next day for four days in New Mexico. We have a few issues that I think we can fix ourselves and avoid the trip into the dealer. I will need some help from the forum first.

1. The front storage compartment door leaks when the trailer is towed in the rain.

2. The black tank goes from green to red instantaneously during clean-out and flushing. (tank sensor could have gunk on it)

3. The "No Fuss flush" drips from the wheel well area when used to flush the tank.

4. Styrofoam bbs abound in the bathroom after a tow from anywhere.

Need to get some Vulkem for those uh-ohs on the road. I am in the Dallas/Ft. worth area and need to find a dealer that stocks this stuff.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

John, check out North Dallas RV for the Vulkem sealer. They're on 35E, North, and in the book.

North Dallas RV can help you. They are a little rough around the edges but seem to know what they are doing. They are on one of the screwy access roads you guys have out there. North bound on the east side of 35E and under the Bush freeway overpass.
Ditch the no fuss flush for a Flush King. Much faster much less hassle.

We have the 2008 version of your trailer.

The front compartment leaks are tough, at least in my experience, to completly cure. If you are ever able to see the amount of water that is hitting that area when you tow in the rain, it probably wouldn't be a surprise that some of it finds it's way in.

Things to look for or check and possibly fix yourself are -

The gasket around the door - is it crimped, twisted or pulled way from the coach?

Do the latches feel tight when you twist them to lock?

If you note problems in either of those areas, you can probably adjust or repair it yourself. A bigger issue is to check the corners of the door frame, especially at the bottom. This is a relatively high stress area and others have reported cracks in the skin in this area which leads to leaks.

The styrofoam in the bathroom is a little puzzling. The only source that I can think of readily is the insulation around the water heater which is under the sink. Maybe you need to open that door and see what's gooing on. There could be something rubbing the insulation and causing it to break up.

As noted above, North Dallas RV is probably your best and closest place for parts. Roger Williams A/S in weatherford is also highly recommended but they are a bit further away. Explore RV in the Mesquite area has Airstreams on the lot and provides some service. I haven't heard anything about their service and I don't think they have a parts department there though

I believe the sensors for the tanks are actually outside of the tanks and work based on pressure. I doubt there is any gunk on it, but it could be out of calibration. There is a calibration process, but it is kind of a pain to perform. It could also be a bad sensor which would likely be a dealer repair.

Sorry - can't help with the flush system. Mine seems to work as advertised, but it sounds like you may have a leak of some kind on the route from the connection to your tank.

Man! what a huge help. I was able to contact Explore RV in Denton and am awaiting a call from their tech. I will check the seal around the door. It has a split in it and looks like it is simple weatherstripping. I will get a snake cam and look in the black tank and see what I can see. I have a flush king and use it. The sprayer (No Fuss Flush) thing would give me the assurance that I have no gunk sticking around. I believe it is a simple thing just behind the hose connector. I will quiz the tech on what sealant is used where so I get the right stuff. I know there are different applications for specific stuff.

The best way to scrub the tank is a couple of gallons of water and a bag of ice. Take her for a drive....

John,

We discovered that the back-flow preventer on the flush system will not close until the water pressure reaches a certain point. I had hooked up a hose to it and there was a trickle of water coming out of it, which immediately started coming out from under the trailer. When I opened the hose valve all the way, the pressure closed the back-flow preventer, the water stopped leaking, and I could hear it spraying inside the tank.

We we last stopped a Jackson Center, the technician looked this up for me and confirmed that adequate pressure is required for the system to work correctly. We have had great results keeping our black tank clean with this, and think adding anything else is a waste of money.

That was our same problem. I guess the last place we tried to use it at did not have enough pressure to close off the valve. I tried the pressure here at the house and Viola! It worked great.

Thanks to everyone here for your help. It will make our "Griswald family vacation" much more worry free. We are departing today for Denver, then on to Yellowstone for a few days. Our intent is to slip down through the Tetons and into Utah to visit Dinosaur Nat'l monument. We plan to go through the 4-corners and visit Mesa Verde and then head toward Texas after that.

Trip was awesome. Went trout fishing on Lake Yellowstone, took the kids through the Tetons and Jackson. Then on through the Firehole River Gorge and into Moab for a visit to Arches. Down to Mesa Verde, Albequrque and Petroglyph National Monument, and then to finish at Palo Duro Canyon and see the Show Texas! 3500 miles and no worries!

Tried the no fuss flush again and it leaked. Upon further examination around the outside of the trailer I have found some very disappointing items in addition to the previous. There appears to be no sealant behind the trim where the aluminum meets the dark gray under panels. The leak around the storage compartment is still there and upon closer inspection the aluminum has tore from the lower corners on both sides and at another location directly below a rivet. Why isn't this opening a radius like all of the others anyway? Inside corners on sheet metal are always subject to tearing. The camper will be going in to North Dallas this week. I have e-mailed Airstream asking them about the quality of their product. It would be different if we had not paid for this in cash with the intent on having it to travel in once the son goes off to college in 10 yrs. We feel kind of betrayed by what was supposed to be the top travel trailer company in the world.
