I'm not familiar with a 1995 25' Excella so I'll assume yours was modded. Can you provide me more info, by PM if you prefer? We are looking to mod ours over the Nov - Jan period when we're in one place. TIA, Dave

We are now on our 5th Airstream in 30 years...Bought our first new 25' Sovereign in 1985...loved it....got run off the road and it was totaled....still three kids at home , went to 2004 30' bunkhouse...great for sleeping a bunch but eventually found I couldn't get into places I did with 25'. Flirted with a 365 motorhome but came back to the trailer life. Found a 2006 25FB LS which I consider to be the best layout of all, with dining in rear panorama windows.Had the queen bed sideways ...sold to oldest son cuz he grew up in Airstreams and wanted one for his traveling photography business. Bought another 2006 25FB LS with twins lots more accessible storage from outside. only other one I would consider is 2006 27FB in a queen bed that runs N-S my two cents

Nice choice but always consider 1 size bigger.

We prefer 25 feet.

Our first and only is a 25 Safari for the 2 of us. Perfect plus some National Parks limit trailers to 25 feet. We did not want to limit ourselves. Have been very happy with this length. The best addition we did was to upgrade to 16" wheels. Good luck.

I see this a lot but never an explanation. Why?

We are working our way up... Started with a 34'.. what now..?

Well, the choice of the 34 has limits on where we can go... it "just fits" in many places... but is perfect for us. Having owned for 3.5 years, many, but not enough trips yet...

A good point for us on this AS , it was due for some 'updating'... now it is a unique rig... also it is 8'6" wide... it really opens things up...

If I were alone, I might go for a Basecamp... if I wore out the 34... not likely..

Thanks everyone
Lots to consider
If we get a 25ft it will have twin beds
The darn 28 solves our concerns... Bed faces north south, you get a dinette and couch, But we don't want to be shut out of certain National Parks

Not a problem in Canada.

Our first and current Airstream is a 28 International. We have been very pleased with the size and if we replaced it we would do another 28 in a heartbeat. Love having the bed running fore and after, easier to quickly level for a brief overnight while traveling, and prefer having the separate "L" lounge and dinette. It is just the two of us but this works out well, especially since we work while on the road.

I don't see a big advantage to the 25. If I wanted to go smaller I would do a 23 since it is 8' wide and would open up a few more campsite opportunities and would be easier to use a smaller tow vehicle.

For all practical purposes, the 27 and 28 are the same size, just different floorplans depending on ones preference.

The 28's have the windows on the same side as the awning and door which I find is a big advantage. I can place the trailer to get a good view both from under the awning and the large side windows. The 30's have the windows on the wrong side for most private campgrounds, you get to look out at your hookups and your neighbors, not your patio. If we ever decide to go bigger, we will do a 30 as a full on custom trailer.

With the 28, the door will hit the first side window if it is left open which is a huge concern for many. We live with normally not using the window and if I do open it I put something on the door to remind me to close it before opening the door.

We have had no problems with national parks and our 28. Most trailers state size as the length of the box, not the overall length. A 25' Jayco is actually 29'5", where as a 28' Airstream is the overall length. If I feel I'm going to have an issue when registering, I just say our AS is 25' which is in keeping with the rest of the industry. I look at driveway lengths when reserving campsites. There are some national park campgrounds that truly are only for smaller vehicles. With those I think you will have a problem with a 25 too.

Have fun with what ever you decide. Lots of good choices.

The 23D is 23 feet.

The 23FB is 23 feet 9 inches.

The 25 is 25 feet 11 inches or 26.

The 27 is 28 feet.

The 28 is 27 feet 11 inches.

The 30 is 30 feet 11 inches or 31.

Wish I had an older 26', single axle, rear twin. Really like the front end set up.

Do the 30's tend to be moved less often?

Can anyone comment on if there is truth to the concept that with a 30 foot there is a tendency to end up moving it less than a 25 foot.

So for snowbirds who plan to park for months and only move it a couple of times a year, the 30 foot has huge advantages.

For travelers planning to be on the move frequently, the 25 footers are much easier.

Does anyone have experience that they bought a 30' and found that they tended to move it less that they might of initially planned?

If any of the above is true, does anyone know if the 28 footers tend to be moved less as well.

The 25's just seem to be very nimble when driving.

I don't think that's a function of the trailer. Its a function of whoever buys it. They are all easy to tow. So it boils down to how much space you want to have once you are parked.

25' International CCD.

Wrap around end couch, AND street side dinette. Plenty of room for two, and tows with 1/2 ton just fine. A bit confined getting into bed, since that space is shared with bath/shower, But we like getting the up close national park camp sites the 30 foot ers are denied. After all its about being outside the camper that counts and leaving house things behind.

We purchased our first ever trailer in 2014. We intended to buy a used 25 when we arrived, but walked out with a new 28 - exactly for the couch reason. We have been very happy and never looked back. Note that we have lived in the Airstream since Nov 2014. One of the notable things we really like about the 28 is that when you put an arm on the TV behind the dinette, you can move it to watch a football game (or whatever) from our chairs outside. We did not have any problems with learning to tow, but agree that a 1/2 ton is just not enough even though that is what we started with. we quickly moved up to a Ram 2500.

Our FC25 is our first "real" RV (excludes pop-ups). Once you get it somewhere it's great: very roomy and beautiful. But pulling it -- I wish we had something shorter, lighter and more narrow with twin beds. The width is particularly spooky in construction zones. RV veterans likely will debate the width comment; we're newbies.

With 1,000,000 miles towing under my belt construction zones are still scary.
Keep your hands at 10 and 2, slow down, and look 1/2 mile or further up the road. This will keep your rig centered in your lane.

Take a look at the new design for 2016 in the 26U. It's just 26'11" long. Comes with a nice U shaped lounge with 2 table choices. Cushions are 6" thick. Has a large all in one bathroom with a very roomy shower stall. Has the twin bed option which we have and really like. Tows very well with a Tundra 5.7L 1/2 ton. Have yet to find a site we couldn't get into. You can read about it and see some photo's I posted here... http://www.airforums.com/forums/f516...6u-139457.html

Modify an Airstream to 100 pounds per lineal foot. maintain only the chassis/running gear/lights, no need to winterize, severest weather conditions capable, go to most back country locations, invest only $11K, have all interior systems portable to an outside canopy. Find one, gut it , then KISS. Transport cabin contents in your TV. Takes 30 minutes to set up.
