I previously mentioned a problem with our Micro not being able to make popcorn and the conv part not baking potatoes any faster than a conventional oven. The dealer took it out, tested it with a bag a popcorn and found the same thing. They took it to a Sharp repair place and they said all micro/conv ovens should come with a glass turntable, the metal one won't work with popcorn. They also said there was nothing wrong with this oven. This doesn't make sense because my AS dealer said none of the Sharp micro/conv ovens in AS's comes with a glass plate. Can you pop popcorn on the popcorn setting on the metal turntable? (BTW, my dealer is purchasing a glass turntable to try it out)

The best solution is to get a plastic microwave safe-plate about 1/2" deep. A lightweight plate works best. Invert the plate, place the bag on the plate, and you're "good to go".
If the susceptor (the metallized part of the bag) is resting on metal, it will not couple with the microwaves.
We went through the same issues. Convection Microwave would not pop the popcorn. We took it out and to a Sharp repair facility, they said everything was okay and that the metal plate could be the issue. Substituting a glass plate for the turntable, it pops the popcorn a little better, but still not like the microwave at home.

I hate to rain on anyone's popcorn, but until they take the toxic butter-smell chemical out of micro popcorn, it might be prudent not to make it in a confined space (trailer) where the vapor would be concentrated.
