Fantastic Fan Reverse Flow Switch

I own a 2007 Airstream 25' FB SE with a Fantastic Fan over the dining area. The fan only works in one direction and moves air out of the trailer. I understand that Fantastic Fan use to have conversion kits available that would allow the fan to operate in both directions. Fantastic Fan does not have the kits or parts available.

Does anyone that has installed on of their kits have any information on the type of switch they were using and their instructions on rewiring the fan?

Give this a shot.

I ordered reverse switches about a year and a half ago, but in internet speak, that's ages ago.

Call FF and ask for the kit. IIRC it was about $50 and has a switch and a bit of wiring and good instructions.

If the kit is no longer available, it is pretty simple. If your fan doesn't have a cutout for the switch you will have to drill a hole in the fan fascia to mount it. If your fan does have a rectangular cutout for the switch you can try to find a switch to match. You want a 2-pole On-Off-On switch available at Radio Shack or most marine and auto parts dealers. It should be rated for 7-10 amps as I think the fan draws 4 or more.

On the plate surface where the controls are mounted there are four screws. Remove them and the screw inside the center of the lid opening knob and remove the knob. The plate should then be loose and hang by the wiring. There will be two wires, probably a black and a white which will come in through the side of the fan frame. Decide on where to mount your switch. If possible rearrange the wiring (it is held in place with hot glue) to reach the spot. If not you will have to splice in more wire. Cut the wires (make sure the wall switch that controls the fan is off) and wire them per the sketch below.

I got mine from FF about a year ago for $45 (too much, but the right switch and instructions came with it). I can't imagine why it would have been discontinued.

Or you might find a working FF "bi" in a wrecked SOB. Check your local junkyard. It doesn't have to be an Airstream.
