Washing Airstream Drapes
I read on the Airstream website that all Excella and Classic drapes could be washed. I decided to try it and it worked out perfectly. My trailer is a 2000 Excella 34 and there are lots of windows! This is a time consuming project but I felt that spending the time was worth it since they had likely never been taken down. I am the second owner! Removing and reinstalling the drapes took the most time. Since each panel is custom fit for a specific location, I marked the back corner of each panel where it meets the next panel in a set. I did one set at a time. This has to be done because all of the velcro tabs will need to meet up correctly for proper closing and securing. I washed each set by hand and put them in the washer for the spin cycle only and then tossed them in the dryer on low heat for about 10 minutes each. Since they are 100 polyester, there was no shrinking or ironing needed and I immediatly hung each set and completed the next one. They hang much better than they did and all of the stains came out and there is no longer a dull gray stiff look. After this job was complete, I sprayed them with scotchguard to make sure they are resistent to new dirt. This was a much cheaper option than new ones and cost only the price of liquid laundry detergent and a Saturday afternoon.
