Wall Covering Pictures

Not wanting to steal another thread, I thought I would post some pictures of the wall covering we used in our "78" Ambassador. The original vinyl wall covering was buckled by heat, dirty, and not that attractive. We thought about painting, stick on veneer, and then decided on grasscloth. Sherwin Williams had a grasscloth catalog and we found a woven type that we really liked. Application was pretty easy...remove the existing vinyl, over cut the wall covering by about 2", hang on the wall with contact cement, and then trim with X-Acto knife (and many blades). I used the left over wall covering on the panel inserts of the overhead cabinets. It really adds some warmth to our Ambassador.

Looks terrific! One question: how well does the contact cement survive through wide temperature swings? Such as our Idaho swings of 20-40 degrees daily? That is what is doing in the original vinyl on our '78 Safari (or at least we surmise).

Landshark...the wall covering with contact cement has held up through last summers heat and this past winters cold. So far so good!

That is very nice! We are trying to decide on painting or not, but I do love the grasscloth look...how hard was it to remove the old vinyl? Any particular tips on removal?

Debi...just grab a corner and pull. Actually I scored it with a knife and pulled it off in strips. Really isn't hard to remove. Make sure you pull it out from under the metal edge banding...that way you can oversize your new wall covering and push it back under the edging. I hit it with a pad sander and it was ready for the grasscloth. We are really pleased with the difference it makes. Good luck!
