Question Using Latex on 74 Trade Wind interior walls?

I am refurbishing my 1974 Trade Wind and was wondering if anyone has had experience using latex paint on the pvc coated walls (mine aren't Zolatone)? My specific concern is bonding ability, longevity, and look. I assume that cleaning, light sanding, TSP rub-down and a primer that bonds to the original wall covering would prep the walls, however, I'm not sure if latex might be a good choice or a problem. If anyone can shed some light on this I would be great full! Thanks.

If you pop down to the interior forum you'll find lots of sage advice. One of the more thorough (and long) threads is:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f39/...cky-55249.html

Lots of ideas there.

Good luck,

mike

DIY Restoration

Hi There, Do It Yourself or DIY Channel did a complete restoration on an AS, and on the internet there are about 25 6 minute videos that show restoration tips. The site is at www.usedairstream.com/airstream-videos/airstream-restoration/1970-airstream-overlander-yacht-video-2/. Click on videos. It has step by step instructions on painting the interior with the correct paint to use. It has a lot of great stuff. Eric

of course everything looks easier on TV. Fortunate that my interior walls are still in good shape so I have a few years to go before wall painting. But did redo the plastic laminate with wood veneer. A great improvement

Light sanding. "No way".

Heavy sanding with 120 to 150 grit sandpaper.

Sanding, not scuffing is the key.

Todanielm ... I started that tacky thread referenced above ... and have finally eliminated my tackiness. I wouldn't want to go through it again. Here's a more *concise* thread that is worth a read before you start your job!

good luck to you!
