Upholstery

We would like to reupholster our sofa and dinnette. I like the leather look, but I'm not sure whether leather or a synthetic leather look material is better. I would appreciate some advice.

Sorry - no real advice. But, I love, love, love my leather pieces at home. They've been very abused by dogs and still look okay. And, a visiting doggie really damaged a few spots that were repaired very well - and not too costly.

I have a friend who has a microsuade sofa --- very easy to clean the drool from her dogs (and boyfriend ).

Please post photos when you have it completed though!!!!!!!

Airstream is using Ultrafabrics Ultraleather. It looks like nice stuff from the swatch images and the specs are impressive.

When we bought our 2002 25' Classic a little over a year ago, we decided the first thing we would do is reupholster the front sofa (the original fabric pattern was really loud and outdated). I took the sofa to a local reupholsterer and had it recovered in a buff color ultraleather. Ultraleather is used by Airstream in their new units, it's tougher and much cheaper than real leather, it's very soft, it cleans up well, and it looks great. We also had the front valances redone with the same ultraleather combined with some of the old fabric to give the trailer a coordinated look. We're happy with how the job turned out. Also, many of the boat and sailboat manufacturers are now using ultraleather on upholstering their upper end boats so Airstream isn't alone.

There are some great colors in those samples, retro to current. Great source.

I have not used "ultraleather", but the leather simulants I have sat on in the past have felt sticky/clammy in humid or hot (sweatty) conditions. Is ultraleather any better?
These types of materials are certainly easier to keep clean, just wipe them off with a damp cloth.

Try google on custom cars, resto mods, hot rods, ect. Branch into interiors & upholstry. There are endless ideas, info & shops. Very similar application.

I found Ultraleather for sale on ebay for $50yd, reg $80. Do any fabric stores carry it?

When I open that link, there are 7 product lines. Does anyone have any experience or recommendation on which line may be best for an Airstream?
