Solvent welding

Some time ago I posted a question about repairing cracks in the curved cieling end panels and some one suggested solvent welding. For the life of me I now cannot find the thread to find out what solvent was used. Whoever it was I would appreciate hearing from you again or anyone else for that matter.

Retirement happens when you get over the illusion of usefullness.

It may have been me. I did an overhaul of mine.

The panel is abs plastic, and abs plastic cement is actually a solvent that welds the plastic together. You can make a paste of abs plastic shavings and the cement and use it as a filler. To bridge the crack and give it some strength you need to weld a flat piece above it. Sheets of abs plastic should be available from a plastic supplier, possibly hobby shops, or you can pick up pieces of a broken end cap like I did at a salvage yard.

I'm off camping for the weekend. PM me with questions.
