Reasons Why New Mouse Fur Works
I researched and tested alot of wall coverings. Why mouse fur again?
A. Very difficult to get any covering to flow over the compound curves of the airstream (curves top to bottom, left to right)
B. Mouse fur has a "hob nail" pattern so that the orientation of the material makes no difference. That means you aren't trying to keep lines or patterns straight and joining seams is easy.
C. It does provide some insulation and velcro hooks stick to it.
D. The underlying walls on my classic were a mess - scratches, holes, sharp edges, overlapping pieces instead of seams. Mouse fur covers it all up.
E. I didn't have to remove the old adhesive. Loctite adhesive bonded just fine with the old adhesive.
Essentially, if you can hang wall paper you can hang new mouse fur. There are some gotchas - like making sure you know where parts are secured to the wall with screws because once you cover the old screw holes you will find it difficult to find them again.
The best part .... I found a mouse fur replacement from a company that supplies Lowes, Home Depot, and Tractor Supply in 6 by 8 carpets that are really inexpensive - right now the 6 ft by 8 ft carpet is A$20 US. They also make carpet tiles if you really want to make it easy. The caveat - only 3 colors. I am using one for the living space and another for the sleeping quarters.
Note: I did aluminum on the top half of the trailer where I didn't have to deal with the compound curves. I don't recommend unless you are handy with metal working tools, have a lot of time, and lots of extra material because you will make mistakes getting everything cut just right ...
