On the road with an issue- loose wall.

Greetings fellow streamers!

I am sitting on top of a ridge overlooking the ruins of Oliver Lee Ranch in Alamogordo, NM. I have driven from Saint Augustine to here and am enjoying the experiences wandering brings. I posted my concern under a different heading but got no response. I need some help.

Louisiana roads are really rough. My tires' PSI are lower as I set them by the load chart not max PSI. I say this as a preemptive measure.

So, my model has a center bath. The wall behind the commode and left of fridge is loose. I do not see any fasteners to tighten and I do not know how Airstream walls are attached.

I will fix it if someone can share how. I looked with detail and found four staple points.

I might not be of any help but I have a 26' FC and the corner of a wall came loose. One of the walls was anchored well but the other had separated and not well attached anymore.

I went to a big box store in their trim department and found a small block of red maple (a strong hardwood) 1x1x6 or so. I drilled three holes on two adjacent faces offset from each other a bit. I then used this as a corner block and used some construction adhesive on the two faces that joined to the adjacent walls and screwed them tight with the proper length wood screws. I screwed the block into the solid wall first so the loose wall would be pulled back into place when tightening the second set of screws. I had to remove a panel to access the corner of the wall (I'm sure your construction is different than mine so I won't go into that detail).

It's been working great for two years now.

I hope my description makes sense to you!

klpauba's solution is certainly a good one.

I would try a different approach. Remove the four headless nails you have found. Buy some #4 finishing nails and a drill bit somewhat smaller than the finishing nails. Push the two wall pieces together to make sure you can close up the gap. Release. Squeeze a good woodglue (such as Titebond II) into the gap, push the wall pieces together and tap #4 finishing nails into the holes left by the headless nails. Do not hammer all the way in. This should hold the wall pieces together. In a few other places in locations similar to the placement of the original nails, use the drill bit to drill pilot holes for more of the #4 finishing nails. Hammer in all the nails so they are flush, use a nailset to set them in slightly below the surface, and fill the hole behind the nail head with a color-matching wax filler (such as https://www.amazon.com/Guardsman-Woo...75&sr=8-1&th=1). Make sure to wipe off excess glue. A wet paper towel will be useful.

We've share a couple of things, loose wall and Oliver Lee Ranch. Our loose wall is the one shared with the closet and range, 15 Classic. I'm thinking I will lean towards a little more security, most likely a bolt. The other thing is Alamogordo and Oliver Lee Ranch. We visited there a few years ago and ended up spending an extra day due to a dangerous dust storm.

A bathroom wall was moving around in my FC30. I took some 1/8" thick aluminum angle and fashioned this piece to anchor it more firmly to the floor.

Thank you so far for the ideas. I am considering all things.

As for dust storms, I was in one too! Not at Oliver Lee but at the KOA in Carlsbad. I had never been in a dust storm. I looked like I went swimming in an ash pool just going out to take care of things. The trailer was covered in mess and there are even some light scratches on the window glass. Amazing.

Had the same problem. Pulled out staples that were used, think I left the top one. Found some paneling nails in the Home Depot hanging bag displays of fasteners. They were brown. Use more than 4. I would also check that the screws are tight holding that panel from the bathroom side. Push corner trim piece tight and put nails thru the paneling into the corner molding. That worked for me.
