Hi all,
Posting this as I was always curious what people did to replace their mousefur and found searching through the threads helpful. I hope this helps anyone looking in the future!
We have a 2005 Safari, 30ft bunk. We ripped out the mouse fur five years ago and replaced it with a textured paintable wallpaper. It looked nice, but we never did quite "love" it as you could still see the rivets underneath if you looked closely. Also, with little kids they could accidently rip it!
Round two, we are using Nautolex marine vinyl and applying with 3M Hi-90 spray adhesive. We did take some automotive bondo to the rivets to smooth them out but I think we could have gotten away without the bondo as the vinyl is textured. We did the spray adhesive, let it sit for the recommended time (maybe 3 minutes), and then rolled on the Nautolex. We did apply in small sections, maybe a foot at a time. It went on amazing and looks incredible.
If anyone tries it - it's critical to get a thin, even coat of the spray adhesive. Don't spray tons on or you end up with a bubble underneath. We made this mistake on the first foot of applying it and thankfully most of the bubbles went away after a few days.
We used the "warm sisal" Nautolex and ordered from Defender. They had the lowest price per yard. I did the entire front half of the trailer for around $180.
Best part - it's vinyl! The toddlers have already been in there and haven't been able to destroy it. Time will tell how it actually holds up.
For the back bunk area, the Nautolex is too stiff to flex in the multiple directions to do the top curve. We had put in foam backed marine vinyl from Great Lakes Skipper five years ago and are still really happy with it. Applied it with the same Hi-90 and haven't had any issues.
We're also replacing the floor (we used Allure from Home Depot before) and we were really unhappy with all the gaps that occurred. Trying the SmartCore Pro this time around.
Hope this helps someone!
