Installation of blackout blinds

I have recently bought a 1973 overlander 29' that has been partially restored. I have taken out the curtains in the sleeping quarters and need to put up some blackout blinds. I'm nervous that the walls won't support the headrail of the blinds with the hardware provided as they will need to be pulled up and down to open and close them. Should I use additional brackets? Are rivets better than the screws that came with the blinds and If so what length should they be to hold securely to the wall. Also I'm wondering if I should install them to the cabinet above instead? What have other people done for installation? I see lots of blinds in pictures on here, so I know it can be done. I don't want to make a mess of it.
