Help on plastic edge trim inserts

I am looking for plastic trim inserts that go in aluminum extrusion trim. I am working on the galley and bath in a 77 overlander. Readily available RV trim insert sold as 1 inch really isn't. It's to narrow and soft to fit the Airstream trim extrusion. I have looked at the links provided in this forum but can't find what I am looking for. Here's a couple of pix of what I am trying to find. Thanks for any help.

Strips of linoleum work well and will match the floor if you replace it.

I've also heard of others using plastic from venetian (sp?) blinds.

I was unable to find this trim a few years ago. I ended up using aluminum colored heavy tape from a sign shop, cut to size and inserted into the groove. I did not remove the adhesive backing cover, but rather used it as it came. It looked pretty good, and as I recall, came in many different colors. My bath hed just been refinished in a very clean white color, so the silver tape made it look even cleaner. The old brittle yellowed insert just did not make it, visually.

You might try calling Airstream and getting a hold of the parts department. Send them a photo of what you need via email. It will be hit or miss with them as they have a variety of trims in storage - none that would fit my 71 by the way - but you could get lucky.

That insert is readily available from a parts stocking dealer.

Andy
It wasn't when I needed it in 2004. I asked everywhere.

Ron, I sold that particular trailer a while back, and did not take pics of the bath remodel. It was a wet bath, very small and awkward to take pictures of.

Resurrecting this thread from 2007.

Andy, by "parts stocking dealer" do you mean the factory?

Looking for a sort of 'burnt orange' color for a 1975 International Overlander.

Any new info would be greatly appreciated......thanks all.

A "parts stocking" dealer is a dealer who normally stocks many parts for telephone or on line ordering by Airstream owners.

Unfortunately many dealers do not stck anything but a very few repair parts.

Be sure to ask any "parts stocking dealer" before you buy it if it is a good, exact, proper fit.

I bought a bunch of it from one, and after I bought it and complained that it would not fit, I was told that it needed "a bit of sanding" to go in.

I still have it, uninstalled. I sanded till my hands were sore, no go.

Thanks guys.....trying to keep it somewhat 'original'.
Dyed the curtains a similar color so I'm sort of locked-in with the burnt orange.

If anybody told me 20 years ago that I'd be dying curtains I'd have told them they had a SCREW LOOSE!

How times change.

I would think the screw was loose from keeping the burnt orange color scheme...

When I did the teardown of my 1975 I found one scrap of the original orange shag carpet in a closet. I am considering having it framed and mounted.

I recently purchased a few feet of the trim from Inland RV and it fits perfectly. With the new plastic paints, you can even change its color if you wish.

LOL.....you're probably right Aaron.

But when I post a pic of my burnt orange trim and curtains with complementary Royal blue industrial rubber floor you're gonna be drooling!

You may not realize this but I'm an EXPERT on interior design......(I went to Wikipedia and looked up 'complimentary colors').

Thanks for the replies everybody!!!!

We came up with a way to "shave" some of the backside corners off so that the insert easily slides in the molding.

We made a jig that uses a simple "planer".

If you have a planer, shave off some of the backside corners at a 45 degree angle.
