Gaucho
Can anyone tell me if it is very expensive to have the Goucho re-upholstered? Just the cover and not the foam.
Thanks

From what I recall from looking at this last year, fabric is something like $35 a yard and up and you need something like 10 yards maybe. I want to say people are reporting $500 and up.
I am putting this off untill next year and going over board with leather.

Wow, I wonder why it is so much? Well I made one. I was fairly simple. Nowhere as hard as I had thought it would be. It turned out really nice and even fit like it was suppose to. The first time I tried it, back in Sept, I took the original completely apart then I couldnt figure out how to get it back together. Now that I figured it out, very simple. Maybe I will add that to my list of things to do. I know that upholstery fabric can be expensive, but those prices seem to high to me. Well, that was what got me in to making curtains, so who knows......My husband found a good website today for fabric and shipping is free inside the US. For anyone interested it is Home Page for BuyFabrics - Fabric Stores selling discount fabric and wholesale fabric. Looks like a nice business. Family owned.

I have had 3 done 5/6 yards each and about $500 a piece. I saved a little by canibalizing a regular foam mattress. Price of material can vary wildly from about $20 to $100+ a yard. I ordered mine from several sites. You might try J and O Fabics for starters. They have a website.

Another Goucho question
Do they all come in a basic size? Mine is 78" wide/long. Bottom cushion is 21 1/2" by 6" deep. The back is 15 1/2" by 5" deep. Maybe that is the price difference I suppose. Sorry it is still bugging me!

I have 2 gauchos in my 71 and 1 in my 73. The 2 front ones (71&73) are basicly the same dimensions. My 73 Sovereign has 2 arm rests the 71 only 1 to allow for the fold out table to slide back. The rear one in my 71 is basicly the same except the 3rd cushion is cut square rather than rounded at the ends (to allow for the curve in the walls at the front of the coach). From what I have seen of 80's coaches they are different.

I noticed also on another thread that the ones from the 60's look more like a futon matress than a goucho. look at Marti's post about having hers cleaned.
Thanks for the info.

I didn't believe it would be possible, but we just found faux leather on ebay. $50 for 9 yards! It should be here on Monday - so we'll see if its a bargain. I think it should cover the gaucho, but if not, we use another fabric for the underside.
J&O sells samples for $2 a swatch. I found some perfect retro tropicals there, but better for curtains than seating.

Argosy Minuet
We have an Argosy Minuet and I did mine myself. I save by buying foam at JoAnn Fabrics with their 40% off coupons for a few months til I had all of the pieces I needed. Fabric and cording too. The two gauchos in the Minuet have a nice feature which is the top hinged to the bottom, so that you do slide between the cushions when it makes down into the bed. The hinge was the trickiest but just took determination. Like SilverThreads said, I used the old ones for the pattern. The scariest part was taking the first cut into the expensive fabric!!! LOL! The pictures are a little dark, but I think the fabric looks much better than the old orange and brown of the 1970s!
Next, I will try and tackle the drapes. Ick!

You did a great job! I found a new fabric site that has free shipping! They have some nice fabrics also. You may want to check them out for your curtain fabric. it is Fabric. I too buy a lot of stuff at Joanns. That is a good idea on the foam, hadnt thought of it. Thanks for the idea because I need to buy some also. I just hated the thought of paying those high prices.

Wow... a fabric place with free shipping, I love that idea & ebay sometimes has great deals if you find a good seller..
Maybe I can get the two panels on our twin beds in the rear redone... they are just basic boards with older striped material over them... not hard to do...

When I took the "board" that was screwed to the wall off to recover it, it was actually a piece of cardboard. the fabric was pulled tight and attached with sticky tape on the back, then screwed in. So i took a piece of cardboard, stapled my fabric to it, and screwed it back on. Pretty simple and looks nice too!

Arnie's new gaucho
I will try pics. Arnie the Argosy had totally deteriorating upholstery. Cut away the good stuff.(Not much left) I found bright retro striped cotton material and trimmed in faux leather. All accents were faux leather....saved bucks that way.

Silver Threads...thanks....I did it all myself. It really wasn't too difficult. I've had so much fun with Arnie the Argosy. Here are some pics of the bed area also. Arnie's remodel inside is just about finished. Arnie will be up for sale in the next few weeks. It will be difficult to let it go after all the TLC. Stella the Excella has a cool remodel also. Stella is staying with us. I'll post some pics of that remodel too if anyone is interested.
