Folding door replacement idea...

The brown folding doors in our 310 are dark and heavy. I have been considering options. The folks who have bought replacements from the bibg box stores don't seem happy with the quality.

One idea I had was to simply make a pleated drape. It would be heavy, but not as heavy as what is there now. But I do think the bottom would be too full to pul back out of the way properly.

My new idea is to make a fabric "door." I would use 2 lengths of medium weight upholstery fabric sewn together and turned so that it is the width of the doorway. (3" stiffener in the top and bottom hems would encourage them to hang straight.) Then I would sew a seam at the point where the folds in the original doors are. This, I would hope, would encourage the unit to accordion to the wall when closed. I want to use the current track and fashion a way to use the sliders. I would probably use velcro to hold them in place when closed instead of cannibalizing the current doors for the hardware.

I welcome any thoughts on this as I consider the project.

I have one from Home Depot and can't say I'm unhappy. It was a good solution to an expensive repair that has lasted almost a year now. The accordian doors are cheeply made - they may last only a couple of years - but they are light weight, come in a variety of colors, easy to install, cut, mount, and well, if they break can be replaced in 24 months for free with receipt at any Home Depot. I reinforced the holes at the top with grommits and that seems to be the issue with these door for other users. For a little over $20 the door looks great.

Good Luck, your idea sounds great and was what we originally did but with a fabric shower curtain with palm tree print. Worked well.

Clancy_boy, Do you possibly have a Stock Number of that Door from Home Depot? I searched their site for quite a while looking for it as I would have to order online because we have not a home Depot near our home. Thanks.. psyops@planttel.net

I do not have the part number I used for the door replacement - the item from Home Depot Online (HomeDepot.com) looks like it but costs more than twice what I paid, go there and type in "accordian door" and search - I used the fruitwood color. I will look for the instruction sheet for the door when I get home and update you on what I find.

I am tired of the cheap ones available in the big box stores. The ones I have tried have not held up to the grandson and dog who are welcome anytime we camp. On my wish list is the custom door from Vintage Trailer: http://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/...Code=VTS%2D296 Now if anyone is looking to get me a Xmas present I will send you the measurements and act surprised when I open the box.
