Custom Curtains

Hello!

I am new to Airstreaming but not sewing and upholstery. I’m looking to supplement my income on the road and offering custom curtains. Do you think there is a market? What would you pay for custom curtains (with improvements over stock)?

Can you tell me a provider that sell replacement snaps that go on curtain to the wall. I need to replace some and want to match the snap base connected to the wall. My unit is a 1992 Sovereign. wdc1396 David

I think you'd have more work than you can handle.

I've heard the stock curtains sell for $250 per panel. That's a lot. It depends. Would yours have pleats? Sliders? Same quality fabric as original? $150-$200 per panel?

The snaps that hold the curtains to the wall are called "fabric snaps" - I think. My wife made new curtains for our trailer a few years back - a big job. Anyway, my part was easy; ordered the snaps from McMasterCarr along with a punch to cut the necessary hole in the new curtain. As I recall I made a few tests to get the process worked out.

Good luck,

FYI we just replaced the curtains in our1992 21’ Sovereign . It was 14 total panels, we bought the material, hardware our next door neighbor did the sewing using our old curtains as patterns. These curtains are as good or better quality than what was original. The total cost was about $1400.

Thank for your feedback. Mine will be made a high quality fabric ( I made mine in linen) with a room darkening marine lining that I am purchasing at Sailrite. Same fasteners (including the snap fastener to wall) but I am utilizing more connections d=so the curtains look cleaner. My first panel is a reverse pleat and I think it turned out nice. These will be totally custom made.

Where are you putting the elastic on these? Between the pleats like the OEM drapes or somewhere else?

Funny! I use my Airstream to get away from sewing upholstery and drapes. I retired a few years ago and after sewing curtains for a new house I started picking up requests from others. Suddenly, I found myself back into business again.

I see that the Airstream store sells them for $450 for front and around $750 for full set. My issue is they are for newer Airstreams. Ours is a 2015 Eddie Bauer. I would like to know what you decide on price.

OP has been gone from this thread for a year. I’d be curious to know if he or she is still out there.
