Can you clean fuzzy walls?

We just purchased a 99 34' Excella Classic. There are dark spots on the wall fuzz that another Airstreamer identified as rivet dust. It appears that the PO tried to clean the walls and now there are stains as well as rivet dust. Has anyone had any success cleaning this wall fabric (I have heard it described as mouse fur)? At this point, I would be happy just to remove the stains left by the PO. I think I could handle the rivet dust. I am afraid to use any product on the walls. Has ANYone had ANY success with a cleaning product that makes it better instead of worse?

I need to clean my walls as well. When our Airstream was new it had some leaks that the Airstream dealer repaired but... they didn't clean the walls.
Some of them have some mildew as well.
Please need advice.

As a last ditch effort I hired a franchised carpet/wall covering cleaning company to work on my problem hull liner. The overall appearance brightened up....I had no odor problems, but I suppose if there were something there the process would have fixed that. The black spots...NOTHING, It did not touch them. It cost 60.00 and they came out to my location....no easy task.

I can tell you what NOT to do .....

Before I got into Tim A's paint solution (see http://www.airforums.com/forums/f46/...tml#post671830) I thought I would try one more cleaning product (Oxygenics?) - and it seemed to improved the appearance of the fuzz - but not the backing - so - more is better - right??? ....

.... not right .... more was definitely not better - wet aluminum dust turns into a slurry - that runs - a lot ....

This took us way past any paint solution .....

We are now in replacement mode ....

The only good thing that came out of this??? ......

..... my wife forbids me to ever touch a cleaning product again .....

I used a Dirt-Devil hand-held carpet cleaner on some spots on the walls. It works like the big carpet cleaners by spraying solution, rotating brush, and vacuum. It removed most stains quite nicely, but it did not touch the black stains where road dirt had leaked in at the base of the walls.

I had to spray the solution while holding the Dirt-Devil horizontal, but it worked just fine on the scrub and vacuum by following the contour of the wall.
