anyone need pinch pleat hooks for draperies?

I'm finally working on my new curtains for the Safari--have the fabric all cut out, but then wasted two days trying to hunt down the little combination pinch pleater and hook I needed for them.

It's called a Conso Nip-Tite Pleater Hook--you sew pleater tape across the top of the curtain --and these little thingies pleat the top for you.

and fabric stores carry them--BUT the kind you need for an Airstream (info courtesy of Shari Davis--thanks again!!!) has the hook at the top--this is called a ceiling pleater hook--these are very rare!!!

Anyway--I just ordered 20 packs of them from a wholesale supplier--I only need 6 packs--but they were cheaper than ordering 6 packs from anywhere else--so if anyone else is making--or planning to make --curtains--PM me and I'll sell you what you need--it'll be 1/2 of the regular price.

Hi, Zoe, I'm very interested in the extra hooks. How did you estimate how many you need? I don't have any curtains right now, so I have no clue how many I'll need.

Thank you, Lori

I didn't have any problems finding them on the East coast. I found them last year at both Wal-Mart and Jo-Ann Fabric. I purchased the pleater tape with the thin pockets sewn in the header every inch or so. Then the hooks just slide into the pockets to form the pinch pleat.

You spoke too soon, kid! Just got home and had a message that they are back ordered, so back to the drawing board! Will be hunting tomorrow again.

I still have plastic slider rings over my windows for the hooks to fit into--so I just counted them--but if you look at a book showing you how to make draperies they explain the math of it--so many pleats per whatever.

Annie--click on the link to Shari's site--click on During and then Draperies--she has a good pic of the pleater hooks.

I'm finding the regular pleater hooks ok, but the ceiling kind that I need for the Safari are scarcer than hen's teeth for some reason.

well, it just took 1/2 a day, but I did find a place that has them in stock--they have 7 packs left, so if yoyu want them, you'd better porder right away as they are back ordered everywhere.

the only thing--a warning--shipping is way too high, but beggars can't be choosers.

Question 1972 Argosy22

Hello Zoe,
My wife and I have the trailer in the title. I think yours looks like the same model. At long last I am beginning to refurbish and restore. I would expect you have some of the best info for replacement part sources. I am looking for a source for the table/bed that I see in the front area of many Argosy trailers. Do you know of a place that I can call?
I want you to know that I envy your free trailer. ALthough I know that you have spent a great deal of time making it usable. We bought ours and my first job was replacing all the copper plumbing since the previous owner failed to winterize properly. A fact they failed to mention during the sales transaction. Please4 forward any info you can.
Thanks,

actually, parrishw, I haven't done anything to the Arg except clean it out--what i'm concentrating on is the Safari we bought last Sept.

I don't really know a source per se for the front table and bed/seats--from what i've read here people seem to watch out for a like model that someone is selling the parts to it--maybe join the vintage airstream yahoo group, too--they have lots of good information and are very friendly.

and some people build replacements--if you can't do that maybe a local fellow could do this for ya.

good luck with it--we still haven't dared to look and see what the pipes are like in our Arg--the only hope is that the previous owner never used the water in it as he definitley wouldn't have winterized.

Pinch Pleat Hooks

Hi zoeb-nj,
I don't know how current your post was regarding the pleater hooks. I'm searching for 3" long, locking hooks for the ceiling application, need about 7 pkgs. Nip Tite brand lists them as model 32179. Is that what you have?
Thanks,
