American Clay

I am very interested in the product American Clay for use in our Airstream. Of course we would have to strip the vinyl wallpaper off of the walls which I heard can be a nightmare. There is a blog where two people used American Clay on their interior of a Safari. However, their walls had carpeting on them so they removed all of this before applying the Clay. They stripped it to the aluminum walls- if I remove the vinyl wallpaper will the underneath be aluminum as well?

What happens with flex, moisture, etc.... Good luck.

We have similar in our brick home. There are hairline cracks where the walls expand and contract.

Hm not sure about the expanding and contracting but there is a blog where two people redid a Safari using this material on their walls. It doesn't seem like they had trouble with cracks. I suppose I could try a test patch on the wall and see how it holds up. Otherwise I might just strip to the aluminum and polish it up nice.

It's apparently a heavy job to remove the vinyl wall covering, and I seem to remember that the grade of aluminum you will find is not the always the same grade as the exterior. I don't have a reference for that, so it could be just another defective memory on my part.

Painting the vinyl is popular, on the other hand. And you can do a less-than-entire aluminum wall covering. See:

Yeah I heard that the stripping of the vinyl is very time consuming. We plan on doing just the front room and that would probably be it. We have thought about painting the vinyl too. Maybe we will go with that idea as it seems like stripping will be a pain. I love that video series you posted- it is the same Airstream as mine
