Alternative window treatments pros & cons?

Removed all the original curtains from 1977 yesterday. The rubber lined back was cracked and they were fragile, smelly & dirty. Now deciding if I should pull curtain tracks. Want to pull because they seem like dirt magnet & p.i.t.a. to keep clean. I'm curious about the pros and cons of alternative window treatments. I don't want to pull the tracks if every other option will be exorbitantly expensive. I suppose I should measure the old curtains before I toss them out?

Many years ago, my mother made new curtains for my parent's Argosy. The old curtains had stretched, and my mother did not allow for this when she measured the old curtains. As a result, the new curtains were a bit too long, and they sagged. They worked, but they didn't look as attractive as they could have been. Good luck.
