'71 Excella 500 Walls... how to refinish

We are the proud new owners of 71 Excella 500! We are about to start renovation, what would someone suggest for the refinishing the walls? They appear to be plastic or some thing like that... we thought about painting them? Does anyone have any suggestions

I have read a few threads here about painting. I lucked out in that our project had already been painted (hideous color, but sticking to the walls), making it easy to change colors. It seems that the main issue is correct surface prep. Make sure you clean / prime with the right stuff, or your color coat won't stick.
If you search you will find all the products you need.

And I will take a few pics of the cabinet mods etc that folks have been asking about and post them in my thread sometime in the next few hours...

Per other's recommendation, we are planning on painting our vinyl clad walls with oil based primer and oil based paint. The key is really good washing and rinsing, rinsing, rinsing before you paint. People have also had good luck with oil based primer, then latex based paint, but some have also NOT had good luck with this method. Since I only want to do it once, I'm going with oil. I won't be able to do it till spring, so I can't let you know how it comes out till then. I also haven't done it yet, so others who have may chime in for you.
