Something I've been wondering about for quite some time is the purpose of those channels on either side of the window. I suspect they are used to hold the bottom of a roller blind in place, but I don't see how the bottom would fit without getting jammed up. Does anyone have a pic of these in use?

I just demo'd these from my '79. You're right about its use and they worked extremely well.

So the plastic insert at the bottom of the roller blind is left longer on each side? I can see how it would work, but it seems like there'd be a more asthetic option than leaving the plastic insert extended? I guess a small chrome rod could be used as an alternative.

My 77 had woven wood spring shades in the kitchen window and bathroom window.
