could someone explain how the original shower curtain functioned in a 1978 AS rear bathroom . the PO has installed typical shower curtain hooks around the square tube that runs along the top side of the shower. it also has a square channel running along the lower side just above the tub. how did this work and where can i find the proper slides for this square channel. the square channel is open on the tub side of the channel and it is about 3/8" to 1/2" wide(the opening). thanks, tuna

Post a picture of what you have... will probably help get more answers! Sorry, I do not know. You might look at photos to see if someone with the same vintage has original shower equipment. You might check the website for Vintage Trailer Supply...

thanks caddy,
think i just answered my own question.... i looked in my "new" service manual and see that the original shower had a shower door!!! and thats long gone!!! so now i have to "rig" something --- maybe adapt something to slide into the original track -- top and bottom -- or maybe just the top and leave the curtain long enough to stay inside the tub?? when i get done i'll post a photo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the original shower curtain out of a '78 Excella rear bath model. I'm not sure if it would have been the same in yours or not. Sorry, it's not the best photo, but you'll get the gist of it hopefully....This is not our trailer, but a twin we saw at a VAC open house. It's the first one that I've seen that was original. Most (like ours) have been replaced with a regular shower curtain using hooks on the top track and just hanging loose at the bottom. We added a couple of hooks to hold ours closed so that water does not splash through the rear part onto the vanity top and into the cabinet to the left of the sink. I'll post pictures or how our (retrofitted) arrangement works if you'd like.

that photo answers more of my questions -- from the service manual i thought the panels were fixed plastic and now i can see that it was flexible plastic material that accordianed against the back wall if the shower. like they say "a picture's worth a thousand words" !!! thanks again, and yes i would be interested in what you have done --- i have been wondering about the area open to the vanity area.................. thanks again, tuna

You're welcome! Our '72 rear bath has a flat bifold panel type of shower door. The bottom more or less follows a track along the top edge of the tub. It collapses against the back wall of the shower and has a built-in towel bar which is very handy.

I don't have any pictures of our current setup, but I'll try to get some for you later today. Take care!

We use a curtain and shut the medicine cabinent door on it to pull it all the way around and keep the water from splashing out the back.

Tuna, Sorry for the delay! This is my wife's solution. It's simple and works well. Standard shower curtain, adjust the length to fit. The rings go on the upper track in the picture; first three holes go on the hooks.

thanks doc,
thats another option --- using the clear stick on hooks for that area to close off the vanity area. i have a 82 avion and the last part of the shower curtain has a small round piece of velcro and it holds great. they also use velcro to secure the curtain when open --- it's a strap with velcro that wraps around the curtain and attaches to another round velcro button on the back wall of the shower.

We have the exact same rear bath, we bought a spring-loaded shower curtain rod (with rubber ends) from Wal-Mart and simply adjusted it to fit between the tub walls. This kind of rod can be adjusted for the right tension so it stays in place. I know the wall has a slight curve at the rear, it hangs about 2" below celing height but is adequate. I works great and never slips + looks great.
We purchased beige plastic shower curtain with hooks and cut the curtain carefully with an exacto knife to size. We are very picky about appearance, and it looks great !!

Charlie, We have a shower door if you would like it. It was in our 72 but didnt fit, it was too big. If you want to send me an email, I can send some pictures to see if you can use it.
