1969 Twin bed wall runner upholstery.

1969 Overlander 27 ft. I’m having reupholstered
The twin beds have fabric runners mounted to the wall. See pics. The original upholstery and another layer of fabric are sewn to a hard non corregated cardboard and I’m trying to locate where I can find this product in the length I need. I can find it in various size rectangles but not in a continous sheet.

My suggestion would be to consider something like this brown hardboard wall paneling available from Lowes:

It is very similar to what was used by the upholsterer who reupholstered the comfort panels in my 1964 Overlander Land Yacht International, and they have held up very well for over 20 years. I have owned the trailer for nearly 30 years now.

The photo below is of the comfort panels that I now have in my Overlander:

Good Luck with your Overlander, and Safe Travels!

Kevin

I might suggest that you consider joining the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI)/Airstream Club International (ACI) as well as your nearest Unit as it is an excellent way of insuring that you get the most enjoyment of your Airstream through the various activities planned by the Unit and the camaraderie that is a part of these Units. A side benefit is that you often find that there will be one or members who has owned or currently owns a trailer very similar to yours so can be a firsthand source of knowledge. There are also several Intra-Clubs within the WBCCI/ACI and one of those is the Vintage Airstream Club that focuses upon the preservation, maintenance, restoration, and modifications necessary to keep our Vintage Airsreams on the road, plus there are a number of Vintage themed rallies around the country and several of the larger regional as well as the International Rally where Vintage Airstream Club members are parked together. I became a lifetime member over two decades ago, and have found many of the friendships made are more like extended family today.

Comfort panels!

Comfort panels! Learned something new already.
Joined ACI, Top of Georgia Airstream Club in January and The Vintage Airstream club this morning.

My wife’s grandfather bought our 69 Overlander new and was an early member of the Top of Georgia club. My in-laws travelled extensively with various caravans and rallies along with hosting duties at “The Top”.
I’ve ordered new axels, tires and in the process of reupholstering to start traveling in April.

Thanks for the invite.

I am sure that your family is going to get years of enjoyment out of your heirloom Overlander. I have known my Overlander since it was new as well, but it wasn't exactly part of our family. Family friends purchased it new in Michigan back in 1964 as their second or third Airstream and owned it until they retired from traveling even after they purchased a later model Airstream. They invited me to spend my first night in a travel trailer when I was 5 years old and the Overlander was brand new. The Overlander accompanied our friends on many visits to our family farm in Southern Illinois over the years. The photo below dates to 1968 -- I am the one holding the pony's lead.

Good luck with your Overlander, and Safe Travels!

Kevin

I replaced mine a couple of years ago. I got matching material and the backer board at Hankock fabrics. The backer board is what some use for headliners in autos. Cuts with a utility knife.

If you’ve ever camped in the late fall, early winter, you will find they are a great option to have in the trailer. I have trailers with/without them and can tell you that wall gets pretty cold and they make all the difference in the world.

Enjoy,

The "cardboard" used for forming concrete might be a choice, and it comes on rolls from commercial supply houses (Grainger's etc.). I think it might be called 200lb paper...
I assume the way the cloth was attached was by sewing through the cardboard like material. If so, then sewing will be like working with leather, and needed a heavy duty sewing machine.
If going with the "brown hardboard wall paneling" (Masonite) material (same material as peg-board) then the upholstery could be attached with contact cement and staples. Flat car door-panels are reupholstered this way.
Maybe ask some online vintage car groups how they might be doing trunk upholstery panels.

I've learned a new thing today and I think I might add these to my 69 Sovereign. It will help with those cold walls I keep leaning against.

Wall cardboard

Lowes has cardboard that would work. It is sold as a floor covering during painting or remodeling. Yesterday I saw it on an end cap with plastic drop cloths. I used it to cover the floor when refurbing a bathroom last year. Until you mentioned it, I’d never thought of using it as backer for the wall cover.

I did mine several years ago. A friend who is a quilt maker made them for me. Basically, long skinny quilts. I use large snaps to mount them to the wall.

Snaps. Hadn’t thought of that. Thanks!
