Smile 1968 Airstream-I will buy your gold brocade!

I know it's a long shot, but old Bessie has been my Airstream since I was 6 years old. We are trying to restore her to her ORIGINAL interior, which has been a nearly impossible search fueled only by my fading 41-year old memory!

I want at least a piece of the original gold brocade fabric in the camper, I will buy your remnants! So many people discard these items, but for me it is restoring a member of my family to her original glory. Please help! I found a photo on the LA Times, so sad that this fabric went to the dump. I would ultimately love to recover the couches in gold brocade, but I will never be able to find something like this in today's market.

Thank you thank you!

Hi Bessie1968,

You know, Retro is really popular right now. Don't limit yourself to checking just for airstream sofas. Look for other sofas on craigslist and your local resale shops and retro stores. We even have a retro store in St. Louis that has shelving full of that fun crazy fabric.

Another source may be etsy.com. There is a lot of retro fabrics on there, make sure you are searching in the vintage section.

I bet you will be surprised and find it, it's hard to be patient, but I think you'll be successful!

Tina

Given your location, I'd be willing to wager that you could find something similar tucked away in the back of a fabric or upholstering shop. It's amazing what some of those places hang onto.

Also, lots of online sources for retro fabrics:

Tonic Living - Retro futon covers, retro fabric, pillows, upholstery fabric

Wholesale Upholstery Fabric, Home Decor Fabrics, Drapery, Vinyl, Sheer, Silk, Velvet, Remnants

MichaelMillerFabrics.com

Find New Fabrics at J&O Fabric Store

Bessie -- I see you're in Mountain View so this could be doable for you ... there's this huge wholesale upholstery fabric store up in Roseville near Sacramento - it's called Triad Plus... I got my fabric for my new sofa there recently and they had tons of retro fabrics -- this place is huge and also has a huge "sale" room in the back...I got my gorgeous ultrasuede for $8/yard! That place is a designers dream...I redecorated about 10 houses in my mind just walking around it!
