Spring time boondocks in the Cochise Stronghold (AZ)?

Hi all,
Heading back to Cochise this spring but in will be the first time in Hummingbird (our 19ft 2010 Flying Cloud.) We've camped several times in the area in our camper van but am worried about trying to get our new "baby" into some of those sites, especially on the West side.
We know about the Eastside campground but prefer to boondock and especially like staying on the west side for the climbing and hiking options. Any suggestions?
If you haven't made it out to Cochise yet.....it's near Tombstone and....just don't tell anybody about it
Thanks!

We've camped in our Vanagon Westfalia on the west side when I was at Ft. Huachuca for a school. Awesome access, roads are in good condition with just a little bit of washboard, and good access to Tombstone and Bisbee.

The Gila area north of the Interstate is fun as well. More remote, with tougher access, but there's water!
