Skunked! Yes, it has happened...
I agree with the hydrogen peroxide, baking powder, & Dawn dishwashing soap.
(DON'T GET THE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IN THEIR EYES - it will do damage!)
However, my vet suggested Gojo hand washing soap. It's made for mechanics.
The whole idea is to break down the oils. Skunk is an oil based liquid.
Dawn, as you may have seen on their commercials, is used to de-oil birds during oil spills. It is GREAT at breaking down oil/grease, yet is easy on the birds. Gojo is in the same lane. It is GREAT at breaking down car grease and oil, hence a terrific de-skunker!

While in the Air Force working the K-9 divison, the vet told us to bath dog in pure tomato juice, send clothing to cleaners and bury all leather gear. I know this works well and we did not have to be careful around the face!

Solution for being skunked.

Short and sweet

Mix dawn dishwashing soap, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Skunks have an oily spray. The dawn takes care of the oil. The mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda lifts the stink out. Works very time our dogs got skunked!
