Yes... I have been on top of Shadow Mountain in the Bridger Teton National Forest. N43 degrees 18.684 / W 110 degrees 27.539 6,687 feet elevation on July 24, 2008.
Somehow the description of MY experience and those that followed an old post of Shadow Mountain some years ago on the Forum... seem to be different. I include some photographs that have not been previously posted on the Forums.
I was not wearing sun glasses, so that may be a possibility... the route was lined with trees going up/down. You will not see anyone until... they are idling in front of your tow vehicle wanting YOU... to move over into the brush/trees.
If someone can find my old post, please make a post and bring it forward.
If you manage to get to the area to Dry Camp... it is well worth the effort. There are some camping areas in the pine that usually are occupied by Horse Trailers for obvious reasons... horses like the shade.
The view is wonderdful. The area to camp is mostly grass and you will unlikely have to be concerned with neighbors.
To the South end is the 'local beer fire party spot'. Trash marks the spot...
This Dirt to Mud to Unmanaged Road is 1.5 lanes wide. Your trailer is over 1 lane wide. Tour Vans come from Jackson going UP and Down. Once you are on this road on the south side going UP or Down... get there FAST.
Follow someone when the opportunity presents itself... just a possible opportunity.
There is at least ONE pullout that YOU will have to back into so other coming UP figure YOU are in THEIR Way. Especially the Tour Vans. I do not recall a Second Pull Out.
Get there Early and leave Late is probably the BEST option. If you are met with traffic on this narrow rutted road... someone will have to move. It will not be pretty... We never went back, but if you... survive... you have BRAGGING RIGHTS TO HAVE DONE... Shadow Mountain!
