Shadow Mountain, Wyoming (Jackson Hole Area)

Hey folks -

Curious as I began my pre-AS days doing some backcountry/car camping with tent stuff.

It's been a year or two since I've made my way to the Tetons and was curious if anyone's gotten their AS up onto the Shadow Mountain area in Bridger-Teton National Forest?

I know I can get the AS onto Antelope flats, but I'm thinking it may be pretty busy that ways and was curious about getting my TV and AS into the mountain where there's a bit more space. I recollect some switch backs, but nothing too crazy and pretty sure I've seen some photos of AS on campsites on said mountain.

Just don't wanna get in a precarious situation with a 26 foot FC.

Might call the Forest Service for that area, who should be able to advise you.

I would drop trailer and check it out. First to see if you can make it...and if you can, it will be rough. But if you can make it, better to find a spot first rather than drag you AS up there and then have to drag it back down. That would be my plan, anyway.

Check out www.campendium.com. There is a very popular spot as you start up FR30340 that even Class A's use. In the past I have heard that the road was blocked/not passable further east.

BC I've never dropped randomly before, any recommendations on where to look to drop for a short moment in time?

That's as good as plan as it gets. :-)

If you are really into true boondocking as you seem, you may eventually want to consider lifting your AS with a Dexter lift kit or a custom solution.

We just did shadow mountain last week. The drive up the road was a nail biter, and I had my truck in 4wd low for a stretch of it. My Bambi16 made it without incident. The view was amazing. I wouldn’t risk it in a longer airstream. Basecamp and 16 would do fine

FYI it appears that there is a trailer drop area right as you enter the turnoff to the Signal Mountain Lookout. This looks to be where boaters are leaving their boat trailers when they are in the lake. Would probably work for your unit if you need to find a place.
